I'm basing my comparisons on Canadian/European beef. Bascially the rest of the Western world. I wouldn't expect, say, Somalia to have the means or infrastructure to process meat at a level I would expect France or the U.S. to. Yes, Europe did have the mad cow scare, but it was a few cases and they really got their **** together afterwards.

For the most part, Canada and Europe treat their cattle with the same chemicals and hormones we do. I think there is one brand of British cattle (something-somthing- Angus) that is absolutely free of hormones and treatment.

While its true there are some unnecessary growth hormones added to our beef, its also true that most of the treatments to beef in the US make for a healthier cow.

I guess what I am saying is unless you are raising it yourself, you can't really assume anything about what has been done with it.

There's been b3r, coleman all-natural, and one other one that slips my mind. They're U.S. raised, hormone and chemical free, pure fed cattle. Basically "organic" meat if you will. You can easily taste the difference, but you'll definitely pay for it. I don't eat meat often anymore, but when I do I eat this stuff.

I've had a few steaks (NY Strips) from Coleman. They tasted about the same and cost a lot more.

"The recall was conducted largely due to looming fears that "downed cattle" or cattle too sick to walk may pose a higher risk of contamination from mad cow disease that has plagued beef cattle herds in Europe and Canada. The weakened immune systems of sick cattle which often lay in dirty places increase their risk of infection."

Must this turn into a Vegetarian vs. Non-Vegetarian thread?

That's about the only disease I would not worry about more from downed cattle. The immune system does not offer any protection from it.

There's always someone willing to try to run your life, or at least make you feel guilty for the one you are living.

On a lighter note, I got a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit from Bojangles. I realized it had all the important food groups:

Cow,
Pig,
Chicken.

It may be the world's perfect food...

This thread is going to the pits more quickly than most.

I have deleted some silly bickering. Please play the ball and not the man everyone. Telling people to leave their country because they don't like the country's beef will always be deleted.

Please also keep this from a vegetarian vs non-vegetarian thread.

Thanks. Ads.

The only way this is turning into a non veg vs. veg thread is by those saying my being vegetarian is wrong. I'm not telling anyone to be vegetarian....I only explained why I was to someone who was basically saying it was unbiblical for me to be one without knowing my reasoning. This is ridiculous......just continue with the effing subject already. I'm done.

Let me offer a word or two. I grew up in the central valley. In fact I grew up fairly close to the slaughterhouse that produced the tainted beef of the big jack in the box scare. The big problems there were near identical to this. Where I grew up, which was cow country, eating cows too sick to walk was considered unsanitary, for good reason. Cows get given quite remarkable doses of antibiotics. What they get that is resistant to this can be pretty nasty stuff.

I am glad they recall stuff like this. My guess is that no, they do not know the beef is tainted with anything, but they have a pretty good guess it could be. People have compared this to the French... How do you think beef gets safe? stuff like this where they catch the miscreants and prevent you from eating tainted beef.

This will happen again, and in other countries because it is in the nature of some to be cruel and sadistic.
