Manchester Orchestra

So I stumbled upon their first album a couple months ago after check them out per Aaron Weiss' recommendation. I just went and saw them in concert a few nights ago and I have to say this band is the real deal. Their music is all together refreshing and the live show was excellent. Anyone else a fan? I plan on seeing them in April with Say Anything.

I saw them with Brand New and Kevin Divine, they were quite good. I haven't checked back on them in a while though....

They had a new ep come out a couple weeks ago, and after a long time of searching I was finely able to get to listen to it. I usually don't go for ep's in which the band uses half the cd to redo old songs (in this case 2/5 songs were different versions of old songs), but the new versions were awesome! Especially Sleeper 1972. All three of the new songs were great too, can't wait for their next lp.

I love their full length, I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child. I'll have to check out the new EP.

Do it! The only problem is that they won't sell it in big business places like Best Buy, you have to look in local stores to find it.

New album will be out 4/21/09. It's entitled Mean Everything to Nothing. They are also going on tour, I will definitely be seeing them.

GREAT stuff...I haven't really heard anything that I didn't like by them.

Couple updates on the album:
They are making videos for every song, so if you do want to hear them before the cd you can check out Manchester Orchestra's profile on absolutepunk.net

The whole album is apparently recorded live because they wanted to make sure that real emotions were recorded as opposed to the usually toned down feel of studio recordings.

I'm so excited for this album.

I know it's been around for a while, but does anyone listen to Right Away Great Captain? It's Andy Hull's side project that tells the story of a sailor whose wife cheats on him with his brother and he goes sailing the globe for three years. If Manchester Orchestra didn't already showcase Andy's song writing skills enough then this definitely does. It's some of the best music I've heard.

Yeah Right Away Great Captain is awesome. Pretty much everything Andy Hull touches rocks. "I Can Feel a Hot One" and basically every song on their new album rules. Just saw these guys with FUN like a week ago and their tracks really come alive live.

I'm seeing them on the 28th and I can't wait to see them. It's the night before my minimester final, but it's going to be worth the it to see them. Just out of curiosity do you remember what songs they performed?

Overall I was a little disappointed by the second half of the album. I can't stand listening to Tony the Tiger and The River could be a lot better than it is. In My Teeth and Everything to Nothing also feel a little weak to me. However, every other song really rocks and I guess that a record with 7 good songs out of 11 is excellent.

After one listen each on Like a Virgin and Mean Everything I think I like the latter better. But either way, I'm glad I found this band. Awesome music.

They opened with "Pride" and closed with "Where Have You Been?" "Sleeper 1972", "I've Got Friends", "Shake It Out", a NMH cover, "Wolves at Night", "Golden Ticket", and "In My Teeth" are all ones I remember. Unfortunately no "I Can Feel a Hot One" or "The Only One". Many moments of just Hull and his guitar singing which were sweet.

Dang it. I'm really hoping for Colly Strings. It's one of my favorite songs ever. In fact one of my complaints about Mean Everything to Nothing was that it lacked a Colly Strings equivalent so to speak.
