| Time Capsule http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/
another cool introduction at MacWorld. Kinda expensive though, but oh so tempting. I'm getting deeper into the dark side. |

| Yeah, but $500 for a terabyte hard drive, an awesome router, and the ability for anyone on the network to access it wirelessly? Pretty sweet to me, and not too expensive at all. |

Any idiot can set up an Apple Airport base station to require a password. Seriously. Apple technology is almost always idiot proof. |

| This was the only non-idiotic thing announced at macworld this year. This is a great thing! An excellent price and a good product. Especially for being something from Apple.
If I were an apple guy I would have no problem buying it. At all. |

| looking at the price of other NAS devices, it is definitely a good deal, add to it that not only is it a NAS device, it also is a wireless router |

| I didn't say if I only used apples. I said if I were an Apple guy. As it stands right now I could put 2 terabytes into a PC with a cheap processor and I would put linux on it as a fileserver. I meant that I am not an apple guy. |

I don't see why you have to be an "apple guy" to buy an Apple product you yourself stated was a good. Your option just seems excessive in every aspect... in size, cost, setup. I guess if you enjoy spending that much time doing that sort of thing....
But I guess that's why I'm an "apple guy" |

| Oh. What I just mentioned would cost me about 500ish (200+ for 2 terabytes as opposed to 1) in money, and then about 20 minutes of setup time.
FWBuilder and a scripted install of linux are your friend. |

FWBuilder and a scripted install of linux are your friend. | Newegg had 1 TB drives at almost $300 a piece. Two of them already puts you over the $500 Time Capsule. |

Dual 500GB is where it's at, for speed and reliability. 230ish shipped for 1TB that way. That's why I said 200+ for an extra TB. Don't argue with me on this, I have a ton of experience in the area of local intranet and wide intranet routing and file storage. Have you ever built a mail server? A linux router? Do you know how to configure RAID 5? Do you run multiple networks on a switch?
I really, really know what I am doing here, and what I have said is true. Now, I am about to start getting argumentative here, so i will let you have the last word and bow out. I apologize if I got to heated about this. To each his own, I guess. |
