| File-Sending Dilemma Okay, so I'm faced with a slight problem. Our very old computer happens to be one which has a lot of important data and such stored on it. Go figure. Anyhow, I've been trying to figure out a way to transfer that data (including a large number of photographs) onto another computer, to burn them to disc, as the Very Old Computer (henceforth the "VOC") is too slow to now handle a proper burning of CDs...and I want to burn DVDs anyway.
And apparently, there's a 2.0 GB cap on sending files through a browser. Unfortunately, "My Pictures", even when compressed into a RAR file, is bigger than that.
Is a big flash drive my best bet?
Or is there another solution?

| The easiest way would be to physically take out the hard drive from the old computer, change the jumper to the "slave" setting, and put it into the new computer. If this is something you are unfamiliar with, we could walk you through it, it is quite simple (and much quicker than any other option). |

| I would either break the files into chunks and put them on a flash drive or network the two computers together, and transfer them that way. |

| Use a flash drive.
Use a hard-disk drive.
Use an IM client (there is no limit on the size).
Share a folder on the network and do a network transfer.
Use WinRAR, WinZIP or any of a plethora of other programs to break your compressed file into fixed-sized pieces (MyRar.rar, MyRar.001, MyRar.002). There's an automatic feature to do that.
My fav, if you don't mind opening the PC (which I suspect may be an issue given that this question is being broached) is #2. The easiest for you may be #3.
Considering I put my first CD-Burner in a 486/33. I doubt your current PC is incapabale of it. |

| The big issue with some of the solutions (and the reason we need those files OUT) is that the computer is pretty much on its last legs, as far as I can tell. That's the main problem with the CD burning, that, and for some reason we have problems getting it to actually read CDs (probably related to the extremely slow speed). That's also the problem with network transfer.
I think what I'll end up doing is chopping up the compressed file, like has been suggested.

| that works, but the fastest way will be to take the hard drive out of the old pc, hook it up to the new pc and just cut and paste in windows. |

That's what I have personally done for the past few computer transfers I've had to do. It really is easy as long as you can get the hard drive in the case with a correct jumper. |

| Yes. Please learn how to slave a drive in your new computer. It will do you a world of good and save you a lot of money down the road. It's just a good thing to know how to do. |
