| Trumpet Student One of my piano students wants to take up trumpet. I'm mostly a sax player so I know very little about trumpets and trumpet brands. Offhand I would recommend a yamaha, king, or bach but that's only based on what I've seen and heard...not really firsthand experience. What would you recommend for a beginning trumpet student (he's 11)?
On a side note, I told him to pick up a trumpet mouthpiece to get used to buzzing to make the transition into trumpet a little easier for him. What mouthpiece would you recommend?

I'm yet to find any Rogue instrument that is worth more than the bubble wrap and foam peanuts that they ship it in. |

| Hi snizzle,
Getzen makes a great student trumpet. Any "name" brand should be fine as long as it is in working order. Stay away from the stuff at China that you can find cheap on Ebay. You get what you pay for.
Most typical mp for a beginner is a 7C or 5C
For more info http://www.trumpetmaster.com/vb is a great trumpet discussion forum Quote:

| I played a Bach and it was a wonderful instrument but of course it was not the starter model either. However for mouth pieces i do recommend the 5c. |

| 7c is my favorite mouthpiece for playing regular stuff, and I love my jettone MF for high stuff... but that's not for beginners. The 7c is awesome.
Conn makes some decent beginner stuff, and you can't go wrong with a good Bach. |

| 7C is a fine mouthpiece and most beginners start with that because their rental horn that they got at school ships with one.
FYI Bach has been having some problems. Workers went on strike. They have scabs making the pro trumpets and the student trumpets are now made in China. Quote:

| 5C will be just slightly larger than the 7C. Works well for many beginners Quote:
