| Best Way to Sharpen a Razor Blade So, I've been attempting to shave with a Straight Blade Razor for the last few months, but my main problem is I can't get it sharp enough with any means that I've tried. What's the best method? |

| Find an older barber and take it in to them to have him do it for you.
After that, you can just strop it yourself daily.
My father gave me two of his old straight razors in the '60's when I had been shaving a year or two and was interested because as a child I had remembering him shaving with a straight razor.
One was an old Excellsior from the 1920's.
The other was from the sixties and had straight replaceable blades (still available). That one is generally used to shape hairstyles but I shaved with it plenty too.
After stropping it for a few weeks you could just put in a new blade.
Mostly I used the Excellsior for a few years.
Every now and then I think of getting another (I gave dad's to my youngest when he started shaving). He had a special relationship with my dad (his grandad).
Nowadays I use a Gillette microastrofivebladedthingamajig-that vibrates and has a battery in the handle.
Pretty smooth babyface shave, but refill packs are closin' in on $50 for a 16 pack! |
