Thinking about buying a drum set

Ok, so I have zero experience playing drums but I'd like to give it a try.

I been looking on craigslist and theres some drum sets for 250-300 dollars, but I don't know if they're any good.

What would be a good set to look for for under 300, or is there no such thing as a "good" set for that money?

If you play your cards right, you might just end up with a working drum set for that amount of money. But it's definitely not going to be real good.

Some good brands of drums are:

DW - DEFINITELY NOT going to find ANY DW remotely close to this price....HOWEVER...Check out Pacific
Pacific Pacific is to DW like Squire is to Fender. These drums are more affordable and are closer to your price range. You can find some of these used
Pearl - You can probably find some used Pearl drums for cheap, probably lower-end Pearl but still useable.
Tama - Same deal as Pearl.
Yamaha - Same deal as Tama and Pearl

There are also other "unknown" brands of drums. These drums definitely aren't going to be close to as good as the upper brands, (You get what you pay for ) but they will work for a learning drummer.

Coda, Percussion Plus, CB drums, etc.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy anything that says First Act. I'm sure you already know that though.

I hoped that made sense... :]

It wouldn't hurt to go try it out. See how it sounds and how you feel playing it. If you like it, make note of it. It's not bad to keep looking around.

Whatever you do, don't hurry to buy the first thing you try out. I've made that mistake too many times in the past. (I was a little kid getting my first drumset and I was way excited so yeah)

From the looks of it, I would say that it could work as a first drum set. But go ahead and try it out.
