Ah...CGR demands pictures...or as they would say on other forums "no picture, no instrument"

A real '54 is quite a thing to have. I can't remember how much they're worth nowadays, but a local shop has a 1964 they're selling for $24,500, so I'd imagine if your dad's is in good condition it's probably worth much more than that.

wow...that looks great. Was it refinished? I was unaware that the '54s came in natural.

I'm having a problem believing that is a genuine '54. It looks too new. You would think the pickguard and control knobs would be yellowed. The neck also looks way to shiny. It's got to be a reissue, unless maybe that photo is from 1954. We want serial numbers!

There was a genuine 56 on TGP a week or two ago that in amazingly perfect condition. It could be real and I want non black and white pictures!

All the '54's I've seen have been two tone sunbursts.

I've only seen pictures, but it's always been the same (two-tone). From the literature I've seen, they were only available in that color in the beginning...I'm not sure when that changed. I guess they went to 3-tone sunburst in late 54 or 55 IIRC.
