| The Golden Compass Have you guys seen the trailer of the movie?? Have you read the book? I read on their website that it's based on a book, a trilogy actually of Philip Pullman.
It's interesting (for lack of a better word) because they talk about daemons (pronounced as demons). The producer of the movie even said that this trilogy is far better than Tolkien's LOTR.
Anyways, the intricacies of the movie are a bit disturbing (again can't think of a better word). |

| I heard that Daniel Craig, Eva Green, and Nicole Kidman are members of the cast. That alone makes me want to see it. I have a lot of respect for all three of them as far as acting skills go.

| I've heard the books are quite good. I'm tempted to pick up The Golden Compass and read it to see if it's TOO fantasy for my tastes. The movie looks interesting to me, though and I'd definitely see it were I not so picky about my fantasy films.
That's a mouthful to say that I liked the trailer. |

| It has Daniel Craig in it. That is awesome. I liked the trailer.
I'm currently reading The Golden Compass, since I plan on seeing the movie and would like to have read the book first.

Daniel Craig is the only reason I'd go see this - he's BOND.
Looks semi-stupid to me. Me and my friends laughed both times we saw the trailers.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

| I'm no fanatic against this, but this guy (the author) is hyper anti-Christianity. His whole purpose of the books (and I would presume the movies as well) is to prove that God and absolute truth is a lie. God is just an angel that is afraid of us, and therefore hides froms us (spoken explicitly in his books). A little disturbing, as someone else already said.

| Is this a spin-off of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door? If it's not, it should be. |

| The Golden Compass **spoiler** so has anybody read anything about this movie? apparantly it's a movie written by an Athiest that Hates CS Lewis and the Chronicals of Narnia. He made the movie to "offer an opposing view". in the movie God dies and people can do what they want. |

As it is, after reading up on the film, I'm not too interested anymore.

| Interesting. Of course, it's kind of lame taking up an intellectual or literary debate with a dead person.
It hardly seems that he "hates" the Chronicles of Narnia, as Snopes alleges, though... especially when Wikipedia mentions a girl hiding in a wardrobe as the start to the plot of Pullman's novel. What was that phrase about imitation?

What was that phrase about imitation? | I think he sees his book as sort of the antithesis of the Narnia series which he has called:
Racist - because the Calormens are dark skinned and the good guys are white
Sexist - because Lewis is anti-female-sexuality because Susan goes to Hell (according to him) for becoming interested in makeup which he sees as a symbol for sexuality
He thinks Narnia gives kids too much false hope - because the professor in 'The Magician's Nephew' brings back an apple to save his mom |
