Ok, let's see here.

Downloading music without paying for it is considered illegal.

Buying music is legal.

Therefore, if you would like to own music, buy it.

I'm not going to reiterate everything that's been said, but also throw out a suggestion. If you are a college student you can download Ruckus and download music legally from there. Of course, it's kind of like leasing it because the files have renew themselves every month and they have DRM on them. They do allow them to be placed on certain media players (I think if they are Windows Media Plays For Sure, but check the FAQs), but not an iPod as they are WMA files and since they have the protection they cannot be copied. It only works with Windows computers, so if you have a Mac you're out of luck. The website can be found at www.ruckus.com. I usually like to have a physical copy of all my music so I use it to preview stuff to see if I want to buy it because you can download the whole CD 95% of the time.

Hope this helps some,

Ruckus is an excellent, legal option, and it is possible to legally put them on iPods, etc., but you have to pay an extra fee for it.

I did not know that you could put them on iPods. Oh well, it's still a good option for what it is.
