Help find people for a Christian band.

Hey guys. I'm a drummer and need help trying to find people for a Christian Rock band. I already told some people on this forum, but I need help from other people.

I live in the Jersey Area. My favorite bands include:

-Flyleaf
-Soundgarden
-Norma Jean
-Deftones
-etc.

It turns out that my mom wants to help me finding people for the Christian Rock band, but she doesn't want me to use the internet. She wants to post posters. It maybe a good idea, but do you think the internet would work?

As weird as it may be to say it, this could fit better in General Discussion... Or CGR Members' Bands. Probably the latter. Perhaps PM a mod of this forum and ask them to move it for you?

Posters are outdated, and Craigslist works just like a poster.

i don' think it would hurt to post flyers in music stores (the local Guitar Center has a wall for these), but the internet is definitely going to be the way to go. if you have an active craigslist in your area, then you could get a lot of responses from it.

this is where these posts always get moved because someone in CA isn't going to be interested in joining a band in NJ

She just sees using the internet to try to help find people as dangerous and saying that it's was bad advice when one of my other friends suggested it. She just likes to throw the baby out with the water.

why is it more dangerous than posting flyers in Guitar Center or anywhere else that anonymous people can respond to your inquiry?

It's the ol' "Stranger in the Chat Room" thing that keeps haunting my mom. She thinks that we're living in the 80s', probably. Any suggestions?

Mention to her that there's really no difference, and that, what I've always done with Craigslist, everybody worth meeting will agree to do so in a public place. I'd say make and ad that says.

Subject: "Teen drummer looking to start Christian Rock Band in the Jersey area."

Body: "I am a drummer looking to start a Christian rock band. The ultimate goals are [insert your goals here, they might be 'record, get signed, tour nationally/internationally]. My biggest influences include [bands]. Please email for more information."

On craigslist it's actually safer because weirdo's don't get your email unless you reply to them. They send the email through an anonymous address set up by craigslist that is automatically forwarded to you. And unless you respond, they will never get your email address.

Thanks, AXguitar. This should help me find some people.

hey there again. I still need help. My mom is still turning down Facebook. But as you guys mentioned before, I still need to persuade her. Not only that, if we do get a poster going, when I put down some of my musical influences, she's going to look at word 'influences' without even looking at the words before it. In other words, she throw a fit and say I forbid you to use these bands. My goodness, when will this legalism end. Is there any other advice to persuade her with?

I can't take this anymore.

You could tell her that influences simply means that you're picking up musical techniques and styles from that genre that doesn't necessarily include lyrical styles?

Legalism is a tough thing man and it will never end. Tough break.

Bad news. The Legalism broke loose. Now she thinks that I'm in negative bands. I mean really, she's accusing me of accusing her of being legalistic. This was only from looking at the "fav. bands" list, she just went crazy. I'm trying to convince her that I'm trying to take influence from the style and techniques, but she's like going around, "the bands are satanic." Not only that, she actually believes that the RHCP are satanic. I mean really. I can't start this simple Christian Rock band without her feeling uncomfortable.
