For a college student, that's quite a bit. It'd be cool to get, but not necessary for my education.

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal".

If you buy it through your school, it's $70.

If your school is eligible for the educational discounts, you should have gotten it for $70. The $116 is just if you buy it from them yourself as a student. Either they did it wrong or they weren't eligible for some reason.

Not. Microsoft's service packs are free. Also, A NEW copy of Home Premium can be had for 110 dollars. Sooo. Comparable.

The jump between the different versions of OS X is alot more significant than a service pack.

You have clearly never used Windows XP SP1 and then used Windows XP SP2, otherwise you wouldn't have made that statement...

Steering clear of the Windows vs OSX argument......

So I took the dive. I'm now running Leopard on my Core Duo iMac. I just did an upgrade, and it went very smoothly. So far, not many problems. Some random software doesn't work, but probably over 95% of my software works perfectly fine with Leopard compatible updates promised soon for the stuff that doesn't. Right now, my favorite two features have to be Quick Look and Spaces. Every other third party implementation of virtual desktops has always been buggy and somewhat inelegant. Spaces is probably one of the nicest implementation of virtual desktops, with Compiz Fusion for Linux having a pretty dang good competition though. I'm kinda disappointed with stacks. They're alright I suppose, but not quite as useful as I thought they might be. Also, it might be just me, but the new Dashboard clipping feature doesn't work very well. Anyone else upgrade?

I was merely stating that they are closely priced. Not that one is better than the other. They both have important merits.

Yeah, i am having no problems at all on mine. I love quick look beyond belief. Stacks is working great for me, just what i thought they would be, stacks. And i have had no problem with Dashboard clipping, works great. I am very happy with the upgrade.

But that's where it was headed. I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just avoiding adding to that particular line of discussion.

Yeah, I think I might have spoken too soon about Stacks. I think my problem was my downloads folder I still had from Tiger needed to be cleaned out. So the downloads stack is getting some use. But I'm still not very fond of what happens when I put my Application folder down there since I have so many apps it can't even display them all in a grid. I'd rather be able to just click it and it come up in Finder, or maybe a way to scroll through the stack, because anything after the letter I just doesn't show up, so it's kinda backwards for my productivity in that regard.

As for Dashboard Clipping, it might be my internet connection. It acts weird sometimes.

Oh, also, I haven't started using Time Machine yet. I used my external hard drive to make a clone of my Tiger install just in case things went wrong with my Leopard upgrade. I'm still being a little cautious, so I'm gonna wait another few days probably before I go ahead and clear that off to use it for TM. I also use Aperture quite a bit for my photography work, and automatic backups have the potential to corrupt the Aperture library if it's open while a backup is made. I might wait to see how that pans out. I'm sure an update will fix that problem.

Honestly, all the little improvements here and there are what really make the upgrade worth it.

My friend who works at the church got it on Friday. We had a lot of fun with the backgrounds on the photobooth program. Especially the rollercoaster one.
