| Haha, I've had teachers say that to me before. I think they mean it in a joking sort of way...in that it's supposed to be tough to understand, to wrap your mind around. Certainly some assignments are ridiculous. I think that school is supposed to stretch your mind more than you would normally - and yes this might cause stress!
As for giving you actual, physical headaches, I doubt that's what your teacher meant and if you are in physical pain you should probably get it checked out by a doctor or something.

| actually it was! cause the student had said she was getting physical headaches while doing the assignment, and the teacher explained that that's how our body reacts to this kind of thinking!

| um, I don't think that's terribly healthy. I have times where it feels like my brain is about to explode but if I ever get an honest to god headache while working I stop until it goes away, because you won't do very good work while your head is throbbing.

| Unless this is a medical class, I'd say your teacher is just full of crap or being jocular.

| One of my teachers once stated that learning should be painful or else you're not really learning anything.
However, I learn much more when I'm having fun with whatever I'm learning. |

| I see no reason why learning should be painful. Learning should be enjoyable. A teacher who thinks otherwise shouldn't be a teacher.

When I took Calculus in high school, by the time the class was done, my mind actually felt like it had been exercised. If anything, that's how your mind should feel after doing some extensive learning of any kind. Not physically painful. If that's what's going on, it's likely a vision based thing where you've been staring at the paper too long (I've gotten those headaches too). But I am by no means a medical professional, I'm an accountant. If you're getting headaches, I suggest seeing a doctor.

| Get revenge. Find some atrociously ugly bright yellow paper and print out your homework in hot pink text on it. Tell them that grading such a tough assignment should give them just as much of a headache.

I think it's ridiculous to have to have a headache to be learning; I certainly learn more when I'm interested and it's enjoyable.
