Meh. I love the movie, and perhaps that's because of the fact that it plays so loose with canon. I don't care about Vulcan being gone. I'm THRILLED they left the humanistic idiocy behind. Picard and Janeway ended up being self-righteous cardboard cutouts who went to alien worlds to preach while raising one eyebrow in... hubris. Enterprise almost saved the franchise, except no one watched it.

Finally, a Star Trek with actual people in it.

And yes, the plot holes were serious. I don't care.

Go to your local bookstore and purchase a copy of "The Nitpicker's Guide to Classic Trek." EVERY SINGLE EPISODE OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES CONTRADICTED ITSELF IN SOME FASHION.

And since Star Trek was a low budget TV series with a small following back in an era where television was still pretty new....they had no idea they were establishing the canon for 11 movies and 5 TV shows.

All that to say, there's going to be contradictions...there are contradictions on EVERY TV show and in every movie.
Which is exactly why no one should care.
