| I rode my bike in fixed gear for the first time today. It was a rather odd sensation. I definetly would not want to be riding fixed while in traffic(swerving/turning at the wrong time would mean scrapping your pedals and possibly falling), but it is definetly something I will be messing with. Being able to pedal backwards is the weirdest thing. I cant really say that I am able yet, but maybe some day... I also gave my bike a wash today. I have ridden it in the mud and rain a little and just the build up from every day riding was pretty bad. Here is a picture for all of you to enjoy. |

| I got a new bike today!!!
I love thrift stores. I found a rad 1980's (not sure of the year yet) Nishiki Rally road bike for only $10. We just need to clean it up a bit, get some new tires and a seat, and it should be good to go!
I'll post pictures soon. |

| I just bought a new road/hybrid/commuter bike.
It's a GT ZuM 5.0, as seen here: http://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=3040
Got it from the local Performance Bike store for $259, $20 off the web price.
I was looking for a road-type bike as my mountain bike (Schwinn Moab 3) is a bit much to lug around the streets and the Panaracer tires make a ton of noise on paved surfaces.
I checked out a couple skinny-tire straight-bar bikes last week but I really didn't want such a small amount of tire surface on the ground so I searched a little more and found the ZuM which has a smooth but not too narrow street tire, aluminum frame and components, a single speed front gear and 8 speed Shimano Acera rear. All the other typical sub $500 stuff...TruVaTiv cranks, Tektro brakes, Kenda tires, WTB seat, etc...
In my brief time test riding it, I can see it being exactly what I want for my around the hilly streets rides. |

| Happy (early) Birthday to meeee! So, there has been much sadness in our house.
Rhonda, it seems, is too big for me. We must find her a new home...but she's lookin' darn pretty, so I'm sure she'll find a good one.....
Anywho...
Today I got a new bike!
a 2008 Bianchi Lei Dama Bianca Elena.
MUCH better fit, and I must say....pretty bad ass.
Also, much love to the local bike shop who sold her to me for $1185. Word.
I'll post photos soon....but here are the specs and photo from the Bianchi site. |

| Never noticed this thread before. Good to see some fellow commuters and city bikers around. Do we have any cyclecross or track racers around by chance?
I've been on a fixed gear for about 9 months now and I am totally ready for winter to come and hopefully we will get some good winter riding weather around here. Getting ready to change out my wheels to some Mavic Open Pros laced to Formula hubs and a new Crankset/BB. (Its always exciting to get fun new bike parts )
