Electric Organ and Piano.

I just got an electric organ and a piano given to me today. The piano needs some minor repairs, but I am glad to have it. It plays beautifully, and sounds amazing. The electric organ, on the other hand, has some strange quirks. The foot pedals all play the same note, and when they do change, it's late. I am not sure if that is something that can be fixed, or if it is permanently damaged.

Note: I am taking piano lessons, but I don't really pla organ. As it isn't that differant than piano, I will probably teach myself if I can get this thing to work.

Organ is VASTLY different from piano. It's like comparing guitar to mandolin or bass guitar. They are similar, and most guitarists can play mando or bass but it is much different to BE a bassist or accomplished mandolin player.

There's a lot of technical things that organs have that pianos do not. I'm going to guess that this organ has at least two manuals (keyboards) plus pedals. If so, there's a lot of stops (knobs) that you pull out to make different sounds.

The playing style is also VERY different. On piano you can get away with being a little sloppy and having poor fingering because you have the use of the sustain pedal. Not so on the organ. Your fingering technique must be impeccable.

You can probably get the organ fixed, but for now i'd pick one (probably piano) and focus your attention there. As a musician that splits his time between far too many instruments I can speak from experience when I say, put your energy into one instrument and master that.

I can vouch for that. I've played some pieces I originally learned on piano on a church organ. That was when I realised that maybe fingering is important.
