Switchfoot/Relient K Launch Fall Tour

Nashville, Tenn., October 3, 2007: It’s official – Switchfoot and Relient K will be touring together for the first time since 2001. The 34-city, co-headlining tour launches in Charleston, WV October 16. In the past four years, the two bands have collectively scored five albums in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and have spent the better part of each year on the road, much to the delight of their massive fanbases. While sorting out details for the upcoming tour, Switchfoot and Relient K discovered they shared a mutual respect for Habitat for Humanity. So they've made arrangements for one dollar from each ticket sold to be donated to the non-profit organization, which seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. The bands are also offering Habitat for Humanity’s top two to four volunteers in each tour market tickets and a time to meet with them at the venue day of tour.

“For the past three years the Bro-am has been an amazing chance to give back to our local community,” says Switchfoot lead vocalist Jon Foreman of the annual surfing/music event the band founded to benefit San Diego’s Care House. “We wanted our next tour to be built the same way: giving directly to local communities around the country. Habitat for Humanity was an obvious fit; we're honored to be partnering with such a great organization.”

“We've been trying to get back on the road with Switchfoot ever since the first time we toured together,” says Relient K lead singer Matt Thiessen. “The two of our bands combine for a really diverse show that seems to flow together in a very natural way. We're also big fans, so we get to ask for their autographs and take pictures with them every night.”

Recognized as one of the hardest touring bands in rock, San Diego based Switchfoot has sold more than one million concert tickets worldwide since the 2003 release of its double-Platinum breakthrough album The Beautiful Letdown. Following the massive success of this album was an ever-growing fanbase and continuous international touring in support of its next two critically acclaimed albums, Nothing Is Sound and Oh! Gravity.

Recorded at Big Fish Recording in Encinitas, CA, Oh! Gravity. showcases a harder rock direction for Switchfoot. The album has received stellar reviews, with Billboard magazine calling it “the best of the San Diego group’s nearly 10-year recording career.” Spin exclaims this album is “their liveliest record, full of dive-bombing guitar fuzz, juicy arena-alt choruses.” “This is an outstanding record in every sense,” raved Associated Press. Alternative Press found that “Oh! Gravity. [is a] sparkling, focused album bursting at the seams with giant hooks and even bigger ideas. In fact, Oh! Gravity. is Switchfoot's most diverse disc to date.” Switchfoot’s live performance is an unparalleled combination of great rock music and raw emotion that is not to be missed.

In 2005, with the group’s love of music and surfing, they announced the First Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am, a surfing and music benefit-event raising money and awareness for Care House, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving homeless teens, teens in crisis and young mother in crisis throughout San Diego County. This year's Bro-Am festival drew a record 6,000 supporters who spent the day watching some of their favorite surfers and musicians compete in various competitions. The evening was rounded out with a concert by Switchfoot joined by Jason Mraz, members of Nickel Creek and a number of other local artists. The band’s ongoing charitable work in Africa, India and in its homeland continues to keep people in awe of their sincerity, passion and commitment to dealing with globally important issues.

Switchfoot is: Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar); Tim Foreman (bass, backing vocals); Chad Butler (drums); Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keys, backing vocals); and Andrew Shirley (guitar).

Relient K has released five albums in seven short years, with the latest – the aptly-titled Five Score And Seven Years Ago – debuting at #6 on the Billboard 200, their highest charting album to date. The band launched the album earlier this year with appearances on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and “The Tonight Show,” a headlining tour that commenced with a sold-out show in New York City and the hit single/video “Must Have Done Something Right.” ABC has tapped "The Best Thing," current single for the album, for use in its fall line-up promotional spots, which are airing now through September 24. Capitol Music Group will also release the band’s first-ever full-length Christmas album on October 23. Let It Snow, Baby…Let It Reindeer will feature 10 holiday classics plus six Relient K originals.

Following a string of three back-to-back Gold records, Five Score And Seven Years Ago (which features guest vocals from Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman on album closer “Deathbed”) is the quintet’s most assured effort to date. “Five Score features irresistible pop-punk hooks and glorious Beach Boys-style harmonies, all building to an 11-minute mini-rock opera that recalls – and equals – The Who’s ‘A Quick One While He’s Away,’” said USA Today while Alternative Press praised its “radio-ready power-pop goodness” and “rare gems.” “Few bands play punk-influenced modern rock as proficiently,” said Spin, and the Los Angeles Times found Relient K’s music notable for “its smart blend of punk pop and power pop, weaving together influences as diverse as the Beach Boys, Blink-182 and Fountains of Wayne.”

Formed in Canton, OH in 1998 and named after Plymouth’s Reliant K car, the band combines a highly idiosyncratic sense of humor, rife with puns and other wordplay, with astute observations on human nature. Although their tour bus was recently burnt to a crisp (see http://www.relientk.com/blog.aspx for details), they still love touring. Relient K is comprised of Dave Douglas (drums/vocals); Matt Hoopes (guitars/vocals); Jon Schneck (guitars, banjo, bells and vocals); Matt Thiessen (lead vocals, guitars and piano); and John Warne (bass/vocals).

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight.

I've seen them twice, and they were fantastic both times. They sound great live and put on a good show.

I seriously wish I could catch this tour. Relient K isn't my favorite band by any means, but I've heard they're fun live, but I haven't had a chance to see them yet. And I'd love to see Switchfoot again. Unfortunately, they're not going to be anywhere in my area on this tour.

Relient K and Switchfoot are both amazing live
which is why this tour is so amazing
they are two of my most favorite bands to see live
that list also includes, Anberlin, Pillar, and Kids in the Way
I'm going to the one in Jonesboro, which is only about 30 minutes less a drive then Dallas

I'm hoping to see them in Moline; I just finally saw RK in Madison WI for free; and they definitely sound as good as the cds live....Btw, if you want a Christian band to get more mainstream attention, you should go to mcdlive.com and vote for RK....cause then they'd have a McDonald's commercial...

Saw the show tonight
It was the best concert I've ever been too
They'll definitely play for bigger crowds on this tour
but it was a really fun concert
