| Weekly Challenge #1 VOTING Challenge #1 Quote:
This week's challenge will be panning/motion blur.
find a subject in motion, and slow your shutter down, blur the background and keep the foreground sharp.
| Here are the entries (in no particular order). Voting should be based on technique, creativity, and how interesting the photo is while within the challenge's criteria. Voting will be open till 10-9-07, and the winner will be able to choose the challenge for the next week. Wally ApparentlyNothing Jump5Fan Rainer.

#2 | | Deadly Horses Authorized | I like the tire swing. It was really close between it and the guy on the bike, but I like the blurring on the minivan rather than the trees. |

| Rainer - it's very clear where it should be. The tones are great. I find a lot of originality with the idea as well. Composition was well preserved even in spite of a not so easy shot.

#5 | | MARRIED!!! | I voted for the tire swing. It follows the criteria, and I love the blurring. It makes it almost look like a painting. It's interesting. It's the one that jumps out the most at me, even though the colours could be a bit more vibrant. |

| Wally - I really like how Wally's shot showed probably the best technique, seeing as he successfully tracked the ball with a relatively high shutter speed. Very creative, could be composed a little better, but a nice technique shot, overall. |

Bear with me, I just want to understand the critique. Are you referring to the fact that Rainer's has more potential for "substance" whereas the others seem less thought out?
BTW, I think there should be a new rule that you can't vote for your own photo. I'm not speaking against anyone but myself. Is it possible for mods to edit poll results? If so, can you take mine off so I can vote for someone else other than myself? |

Out of all of them, I could only really see Rainer's being used anywhere but in a personal photo album.

| Yeah, i saw this as more of an oppurtunity to challenge what i can physically do with a camera. Not to say the other pictures aren't quality, as artistically they are nicer to look at than mine, but I know how hard it is to track a baseball compared to a tire swing.

Not saying it's not a nice pic, but as for the competition, it just isn't relevant.

Tracking a tiny little ball at that speed while still getting that sharpness had to be difficult. At least my old man on a bike was going slower and was a much bigger target, although I did have to work with zooming too since he was coming towards me.
The competition shouldn't take precedence over the actual purpose of the challenges, which is to challenge you. I think the only reason we have the competition is so we can say who gets to pick the next category. But seeing as how this whole thing is in its infancy, we can maybe go with another way of doing things. I'm open to suggestions. |

| I voted for Wally's photo because of the technique required to make that shot. I imagine it must be very hard to track such a small object while keeping it sharp. |

| I think that ranier's shot is very nicely composed and crisp, in fact on those merits it's probably the nicest of the bunch. However while the topic says "panning/motion blur" the description of the challenge in the rules does go into more detail. I didn't post my pics because i wasn't able to get them processed in time, but I will post something later.
My goal was to get us moving the camera with the subject because it is one of the most difficult parts of action photography. |
