Only if you do a lot of work in the dark.
Besides, if it doesn't cost too much more money, you could always turn the lights off if you don't like them, right?

Okay, I've finally broke down. Usually, I'd shun getting a mac, but they sound so good right now. I had a lan party over at a friends house, and someone brought a macbook with bootcamp on it. It seemed to run all the games well, even though it was several years old. I've kinda been leaning toward portability now, so would getting a macbook with bootcamp be a good idea?

If you are heavily into gaming, then it would probably not be a good idea for your purposes. You would end up spending more money (having to buy an extra copy of Windows) as well.
I think Macs are unrivaled in terms of the software packages that they offer, but unless you have a really good reason for getting one (i.e. you NEED to use Digital Performer or Final Cut), you should stick with a Windows machine.

Most laptops have pathetic graphics cards, except for the expensive gaming laptops. Unfortunately there heavy and have low battery life. Would it be wise to shell out the money for a gaming laptop, or forfeit portability for value and get a desktop.
