Official AoE2 Tournament Thread

Alright, there appears to be some interest, so an AoE2 tournament (Conquerors and Age of Kings) seems to be in order.

Registration must be done by October 6th (lots of time

). As for the first round dates... Probably in the following week. If there are any problems with that, let me know.

Rules:

1. This is for CGR members only.

2. Conquerors is the game of choice, unless you don't have it, in which case, Age of Kings will be fine. You can't have Conquerors without Age of Kings anyway, so compatibility should be fine.

3. We will use the latest patch for each game. For Conquerors, that's patch 1.0c, and for Age of Kings, that's 2.0b (Fixed. Thanks, AudioACanuck), I believe (If I'm wrong, please tell me, and I'll update it).

4. The official map we'll use will just be a Random map. I'd like input on whether or not you think it should be Fortress mode or not.

5. As in the Starcraft tournament, at least one person must record the game and post it here as an attachment (as soon as that's back in action).

For ease of use, this tournament will be Single Elimination. As I'm already basically ripping off the Starcraft tournament already, I like the idea that all players eliminated on the first round get to compete together in a free-for-all on a Random Map for title of "Best of the Worst," and a chance to get back into the tournament, in case another member has to leave, gets kicked out, etc.

Also, for online multiplayer, AoE2 (Age of Kings and Conquerors) requires you to use Gamespy Arcade. The easiest way to do this is to enter AoE2 and click online play. It should bring up the MSN Gaming Zone site telling you that MSN Gaming Zone doesn't support AoE2 anymore, and now Gamespy Arcade does. It'll provide a link. Follow that link and get the Gamespy Arcade client. Once that's done, provide your Gamespy Arcade account username so that we can keep track of you.

The format for the list will be like this:

#. CGRUsername (Gamespy Arcade Username) [Highest version they have, AKA, Conquerors or Age of Kings]

List of players:
1. DaGeek (DaGeek05) [Conquerors]
2. RubberChipmunk (RubberChipmunk?) [Conquerors]
3. Rainer. (rainerclouds) [Conquerors]
4. AudioACanuck (?) [Age of Kings]
5. Hapa_angel (Angelichapa?) [Age of Kings]
6. Jaycarrfan (rc251) [Conquerors]

Also, if this could be stickied as well, I'd appreciate it.

Count me in. I'm pretty sure that my GSA name is RubberChipmunk, but I'll have to check once I re-download it when I have my new computer.

Random map games take a long time. They'd have to be small. And definitely do it without fortress mode. If you're not going to do a post-imperial death match, there's no reason you shouldn't have to build walls from scratch. That's just my two cents.

Such was my thinking, too

. Makes it more a match of skill and defense-knowledge if you have to build your own.

I'd love to be in! I used to play all the time. I only have the Age of Kings though. Never upgraded to the Conquerors.

Btw the newest patch for AoK is 2b.

And I'll have to get an account at gamespy as well.

Maybe somebody has some idea how to fix this. When I launch Gamespy and try to enter my e-mail address, it says that no profile is associated with the address. Which is definitely not true. Anybody?

Odd... Has it sent any confirmation e-mails of any sort? I can't remember registering with Gamespy, I did it a long time ago.

I remember it sending something. I don't remember if it was when I registered or when I updated the profile or something else. I did confirm it, though.
