A little, in the pecs. I don't think I've gained any weight at all, though.

If you've changed your diet and started exercising, you might be lowering your body fat while gaining a bit of muscle. Heavy lifting also gives muscles a hard appearance.

That could be. When I weighed myself today at the gym, I was up 1.5 pounds from Tuesday...so either they have inaccurate scales at the gym, or my weight fluctuates a lot depending on how much I eat and drink.

My weight is pretty nuts. Sunday morning I weight 173. Last night I weighed 181. There have been times when I lost 5 pounds overnight...but thats because I drink a lot of water.

Well, I almost gave myself a hernia the other day while doing squats. As I was coming back up on my first squat of the day, I had an extremely sharp, almost "hot" feeling pain in my lower abdomen, almost groinal region. It was very tender the rest of the evening, so I probably won't be doing squats anymore. Is there any way to prevent that? I was wearing a weight belt.

I've never experienced anything like that, and I almost never wear a weight belt. Did you stretch and do warm up sets? If you didn't warm up (and especially if you didn't stretch as well) I can see why your body would get mad at you. However, if that happened while doing a warm up set or if you warmed up first and that still occurred, I have no idea.

Have you been doing squats for couple months now?
Was there anything different about what you did yesterday (more weight, different order)?

To answer your questions....it was my warm up set, although I might have been doing a little too much. I had stretched, but I hadn't done squats in a month or so. I only stretched out my legs, though, and this pain wasn't in the legs.

using perfect form, and stretching will prevent that... have someone who is a more experienced weightlifter check your form next time.. or just use less weight + more reps to warm up with.

That's what I'm thinking. If the pain wasn't in your legs and you were doing a warmup set, it sounds like you probably did bent or moved in a way your body doesn't like and that squats aren't supposed to do.

In that case it would probably be good to hold off on squats until you can get someone to watch you and check your form.

I agree with the above two posts. It's either your form or it's too much weight. How much were you doing? (My guess is that, if it was a warm-up, it wasn't much weight, therefore making form be the more likely suspect.)

Actually, it wasn't really much of a warm up, just the first set. I did 225. Looking back on it, I guess that was probably pretty stupid.

Well, whether it's stupid or not would depend on what you normally do for reps. How many of, say, 200 can you normally do? Do you normally do reps that high in weight?
