Some pop vocalist just have naturally resilient voices that they seem to be abe to abuse regularly without any short term problems. Just because it sounds good to you, doesn't mean its good technique. The best pop singers IMO are those that have been classically trained first. I think everyone should learn to sing in Italian before they learn to sing in English.
