help with my Mom (again)

Hey. I need to post this message because apparantely my Mom has a problem with Flyleaf. She doesn't like the fact that the opening track has screaming in it. I'm really into Flyleaf and need help really badly.

Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

That's what the problem is, my Mom's "Holier-than-thou" growl. She always told me to always acknowledge the messages that come out of Christian music. Apparently, she may be narrow-minded now of what style of music should be Christian.

Now, I'm not saying she believes this, but how she's reacting is making me feel that she still thinks in deep inside that not all music is created by God.

Any advice?

Music, last time I checked, was created by humans, not by God. The simple fact of the matter is that in this thread and the last your attitude has basically been, "My mom is wrong, how can I knock some sense into her so she doesn't put unreasonable restrictions on me." That's the wrong attitude. As long as you have an attitude like that, your problem CANNOT be solved.

You have to honor your parents, as hard as it might be. That's what the Ten Commandments say. As long as you're a minor and under their roof, it's your obligation to follow what they say, like it or not. If your mom says you shouldn't listen to Flyleaf, you have to obey her. You can try talking to her, but you should not have the attitude that you need to "change" her feelings. You cannot make her change how she feels about any particular thing regarding you and your life. What you can do is talk to her and find out just why she has a problem with something. Then you can express your feelings to her--and do it in a respectful way. She may end up changing her mind if she really thinks about the situation. Or she may not.

I experienced a similar thing with my mom. She did not want me purchasing a 12 Stones CD (this was back in 2004). I was so upset about it, but I figured out that I needed to follow what she said, so I didn't buy it.

I'm with Bob on this. Also, there MUCH better bands than Flyleaf that you should be politely requesting the privilege to enjoy, but anyway...if your Mom says no, you can request a polite sit-down discussion, but if she refuses that, honor her wishes. As long as she's not asking you to sin, you must obey her. When you're out of her house, you can make your own decisions. But until then, you have a duty.

She didn't really say "Don't listen to Flyleaf." She really didn't enjoy Lacey Mosley's screamo-like vocals on the opening track. Hopefully, Mom will understand.
