| FWIW, I don't think the average listener can tell the difference between the keys of a song. I can do a song in G one month and move it to D two months later and I don't think anyone would care.
As far as "favorites" go...this problem isn't new to contemporary worship. It's been going on long before Keith Green gave modern song writers a kick start. Whether it's "God of Wonders", "Awesome God" or "How Great Thou Art" every generation has had it's favorites...it's just how people are.
Worship music as a way to make money? Sure...I can definitely see it. There's some songs out there that leave me feeling dry...some that I feel the opposite about. Once again, I don't think this is an entire new thing to the 1990s...look at Elvis. Some of Elvis' biggest albums were gospel albums. How about Hank Williams' "I Saw the Light"...that was a really big song for him too.
I feel like on the whole the writer takes awhile to get to the heart of the matter, which is that worship is more than music. Music isn't necessary for worship to happen. Worship happens when we're in reverence of God and make it happen. |
