XTL + Small Rack

I've been wavering back and forth on this decision for quite some time now, favoring one or the other, but I think I've made my decision.

I'm going to leave single floor effects in favor of an XTL, but also want to construct a small effects rack to round out the sound.

What rack-mount units would you recommend I purchase to complement the XTL? I'm already planning on a rack-mount tuner so that I don't have to squint at a small screen to tune, but I don't know which one to get yet, so help on that would be appreciated.

Would you recommend a preamp of some sort? EQ? Let me know!

CL

EQ might be nice, maybe a digital reverb unit, but for the most part, I think you should be fine PODxt > tube power amp.

Could you recommend to me a decent tube power amp? It'd mainly be used for practicing with combo groups and monitoring during gigging.

One benefit of using a multi-fx such as the XTL is the convenience of using just one unit to perform several tasks. It would seem that adding devices to your chain defeats the purpose of using a multi-fx.

What's your reason for considering a multi-fx unit? Why have you decided on a POD XTL when there may be other comparable units that have readable tuners.

Well, like you said, the simplicity of it, and also the variety in effects, amps, cabs, and other emulated gear. The possibilities are endless. Plus it'll give me something really fun to tinker with

Obviously it's not just about the tuner, but after much research, the POD seems have the widest versatility in emulation, as well as the largest user support base, as well as endless new patches to download.

The rack would be used primarily for at home playing, large gigs, and also recording, but wouldn't be hauled everywhere I go (i.e., not just to play at church on the weekend). I think some of the options in rack processors and preamps can really add depth to any possible digital brittle-ness of the POD, and give me a more rounded sound when I need it for large gigs, tinkering, or recording.

How powerful of a power amp you want? I know there's the Peavey Classic 50/50...

The Atomic tube amps were made for modeling FX units. Its a flat 'non colored' amp that takes well to XTL and the tubes make the XTL sound even more amazing...

I'd need an amp that is fairly lightweight first and foremost. Like a 1x12. I've currently got a Tech 21 TM60 which has a great tone, and is loud and lightweight, but I don't know if it would cut it for the POD.

I've already looked at Atomic, and they are definitely a possibility, but I'll keep looking and see if there's anything cheaper and/or better.

the Classic 50/50 clocks in at about 25 lbs that may or may not be heavy according to your standards. I think it is a bit on the weighty side as far as a power amp goes...but it's also a tube power amp.
