Pedal Names

I've heard some really good sounding pedals with horrible names. I just can't in good consience take a pedal into a House of Worship that has Voodoo Labs on it. Also, Damage Control has some great stuff but again, I can't take a Demonizer or Womanizer into church. How do you feel about these names? Perhaps if enough people contacted these companies, they would reconsider. After all, money does talk. I'd love to have the sound of the Voodoo analog chorus, but just will not purchase under the present name.

I feel the same way about the Womanizer and Demonizer...but Voodoo Labs doesn't bother me any more than Budda Wahs.

Duct Tape might be a solution. maybe masking tape would be a better one :P

Honestly, I think it's stupid, but it wouldn't stop me from buying the pedal.

I don't think about Voodoo when I stomp on my tremolo pedal...I don't know how most people could. To me, it's just a name, I doubt the company is concerned with anything other than making money (and making some great sounding pedals). I suppose if it bothers you or becomes a stumbling block, then you shoudn't use them.

yeah... i think as long as you dont start chanting spell and curses as you play your voodoo wah pedal, it shouldnt be a problem. and as long as you dont sprout horns and a ytail when you play the demonizer... masking tape should be just fine.

it is after all, Just a name.

After doing a lunch time Google search for the Durham Sex Drive (named after Charlie Sexton) I felt a conviction to explain the search to the head of IT where I work.

There are allot of boutique makers that use risqué names and even graphics to gain attention to their products. (much worse than the one listed above) In most cases that deters me from them. They'll have to be pretty unique and have allot of good feedback for me to consider them.

I've had allot of people come up and talk to me as I'm packing up my gear and ask about it. Even if I personaly didn't have a conviction... I wouldn't like the uncomfortable feeling. I'm not saying that I would never buy one, but if I were to break down and get one in questionable taste, it would be gaffer's tape or maybe even a custom paint job.

Thanks for all your input. Every person has to go by their own convictions but to me it's like hiding the fact that you bar hop when not in church. To me the duct tape over the name is just a compromise. If I understand God's word correctly, it tells me "no compromise". That's has to be how I live my life. The spoken word if very powerful and the name on my products is the same as "spoken" to me.

i understand where you are both coming from. most of the time, names do drive me away from certain pedals. but in the event that i caved, i would probably do the same as biggsteve., gaffers tape or paintjob.. and if somebody asked, defuse the situation saying "i bought it for the tone, not the name, thus why the name is covered up"
