Trunk latch

Ok, I have a 1990 firebird that has an electric trunk latch, which isn't catching my trunk anymore. So im wondering if anyone knows if I can put a none electric latch on it? I asked the dealer how much an electric latch would cost and its $750 which is totally way out of question for me. Any help would be nice. Thanks

Can't you find a replacement at a local salvage yard, or possibly on ebay/online somewhere? I would think the dealer could tell you if you are able to put a manual latch on it, the salvage yard might also be able to give you that info. I've worked on them so long ago, & I can't remember...I would have to see it.

But, from a mechanical standpoint, I don't see why it shouldn't work. I mean, all that really matters is that the adjustment is correct to securely hold the trunk in the proper position/alignment.

The first thing I would do is inspect the system to see why it stopped working.
It's either mechanical or electrical failure as the cause and the systems are usually stinking simple; a solenoid, a latch and a 12v supply line with ground usually through the chassis.
If you lost ground then you have an open circuit.
If you lost 12v then you have an open circuit.
If the solenoid failed then pick up a replacement either new or used.

$750 is stupid expensive.
