Keep in mind that I'm a beginner drummer (I'm a gearhead though), but I've found these are better bang for the buck then other brands like Zildjian and Sabian. They rock.
The cymbals that come prepackaged with these kits are little more than trash can lids. You can make an inferior drum set sound passible with the right heads, and tuning, but there is nothing you can do about bad cymbals. I would check out the entry level kits like the ludwig you linked two, but I would recommend looking above the bottom of the line cymbals. Sabian B-8 Pros would be a good start but I would try to get to a store where you can try them out and see what they sound like.
If you're on a stiff budget, I would definitely look at used cymbals. Personally, I'm fond of Zildjan's A series, but Sabian's AA/AAX would be worth a look, and probably Paiste...something like Alpha or 2002 series. New, I think they'd be too much, but you might find something workable used.
