Lightbulb Lan Connection?

Hey, Im trying to link a pc and a laptop using a crossover lan cable. They both run Windows XP. I found a website that gave instructions... and they worked in that both computers recognize the network connection... and both computers are in the same workgroup... but my multiplayer games (Age of Empires II and Civilization IV Warlords) don't recognize the connection... as in they don't see multiplayer games hosted by one of the members. Any pointers relevent would be helpful... detailed intructions would be great!

have you checked to make sure they have similar IP Addresses? like 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2? and the same subnet mask of 255.255.255.0?

After you start a LAN game, ALT + TAB out of the game to see if Windows Firewall is blocking it. This always happens to me.

Okay, this is the simple version of what you need to do.

Disable windows firewall on both computers. (it's nearly useless, anyhow.) Control Panel>network connections>rightclick local area network connection, properties>click on "TCP/IP", properties>

enter the following properties:

IP address for 1: 192.168.1.1
IP address for 2: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

the rest are unimportant. The rest of it would just be connecting to that specific IP on the game server.
