Hi guys, need advice

Hi, im kinda new to this forum. Im 19 and ive been going to my church for about 12 years, so everyone knows me and all of the youth are friends with me.

I started helping our youth pastor as part of a leadership team about 6 months ago and i know that it is what im called to do. it's easy for me to deal with the middle schoolers but most of the high schoolers blow me off like im nobody. Is there anything i can do to earn their respect as a leader? or am i just stuck waiting for the middle schoolers to grow up? I love what i do, but it gets frustrating sometimes.

First of all I hate to break it to you but often if someone has known you for a long time before you took a leadership position, they most-likely won't give you as much respect as others when you are within that leadership position.

With that said, nothing will gain you more respect than a radical love and a mind of God's Word. When it comes to love there is no reason to waste time, just jump right in and start loving radically in Christ. Don't just tell them God loves them, show them with your life, and don't just tell them God want to use them, but show them (this differs per person and their gifts/passions) Before you can show them how God is relevant to their life you have to get to know their life, so love. As for the mind of His Word, there are no shortcuts to that, it's just studying it everyday and expanding on what wisdom you have.

Exactly!

However, we soon split into Jr/Sr teens after I became a leader, so now I'm with the Jr's who I haven't had much of a chance to be around before this.

Grade 7's and 8's are hard to gain respect of because they're going through the phase of "Too cool for you"

I can only say, Love them unconditionally and treat them with the same amount of respect that you want to be treated with.

Tim
