About two years really though. I'm moving to Nashville in a month and a half to go to SAE Institute (a 9 month intensive program) for it. I'm way excited. |

| Yeah they do. Unfortunately for outside of state students it's like 14,000 a year. Where SAE is 14,000 for the full program. It's only 9 months, and no degree (unless I go to Australia in which case I can get a bachelors), but experience is 10x more important in the industry than a degree. |

Have fun there. What do you find yourself doing after that program is done with? |

I'd love to go to a college with some sort of studio setup for practice.

| Oh, I just realized that SAE Institute was the place with the really awesome recording site. I love that site. |

I'd love to get an internship and do stuff in an actual studio, but I'm afraid it may be really hard to get into that field. Something that's really been peaking my interest lately though is sound to video. Doing background sounds and even composing background music for TV shows or movies would be awesome. I'm really gonna see what happens at SAE. If something in particular peaks my interest, I'll try go to after that. If not, then I'll be happy with whatever I can get. I really do enjoy all the different aspects of sound.
And, if for some reaosn, none of that works out, I'll be satisfied with doing computer work or whatever. If I decide to finish off college, I already have a year out of the way (dual credit stuff), so I can easily get a degree in a year or so. Quote:

There's a part on their site totally dedicated to acoustic properties and such. Tons of good information as far as setting up a studio (even simple one room studios) acoustically well. |

He has a recording computer with optical inputs, so each channel from the board is recorded separately. He can focus on the house mix, and master the recording mix later. Quote: |

| That's good that you have a backup plan. |

They've been really interested in recording the full service (right now, we just do the sermon), but the sound guy's main focus is the house mix, so he can't get a good recorded signal that well. | Yeah, and like I said, I wouldn't be totally crushed as long as I landed something in computers or the like. But I certainly couldn't do something like pharmacy for the rest of my life (even with how good the money is...).
So, I went to a concert last night. It totally owned. I saw Lola Ray and Umbrellas. They were both amazing. I had Lola Ray's CD before hand and they were decent, but I wasn't there to see them. However, their live show blew me away. It was fantastic. The Umbrellas were who I really wanted to see, and I couldn't have asked for more. They played all the songs I wanted them to play even some oldies that weren't supposed to be on the set list. It was so cool.
My friend and I got there pretty early for when we thought the show started, so we walked around downtown Ybor city for a while (a big club/bar type scene). We accidentally walked into a gay store looking for a bathroom. We didn't realize what it was until it was way too late. Man that was awkward. But, while we were walking around, we ran into the lead singer from Umbrellas and the lead guitarist from Lola Ray. We talked with them for a bit, so that was cool.
I guess one of the opening bands dropped out, so the show started later than it was supposed to. But it was cool cause the guys in all the bands were in the crowd (there wasn't much of a crowd there though), so we got to talk with them a bit more. Then they all played and it was amazing. Then my friend and I bought stuff and talked with the bands more and got stuff signed etc. It was a great show. All the guys in the band were super super nice. |

| I want to try a Mackie Onyx setup someday for recording. That would be sweet.
I dislike the weather in Nashville. |

| Which onyx set up? A hardware mixer with a firewire card or the onyx 400f or 1200f?
I almost went with the 400f, but got a great deal on my MOTU Traveler and liked the portability it gave (It's so light weight and fits perfectly with my laptop. |

| The hardware mixer.
Mostly because I always wish I could have an live mixer deal where I could just rip the tracks right off it. And I like Mackie products. |

| Yeah, Mackie/Tapco stuff is typically really nice. I used a Mackie mixer for a long time for recording and loved it.
I like stuff a bit more compact and rack gear is cool, so even if I didn't need the portability of the Traveler, I'd still go with it or the 400f. |

Now we've upgraded to Yamaha digital mixers in the sanctuary and student ministries. I believe they still use a Mackie for events outside out at the lake and such.
Mackie makes great products. We never had problems with any of their mixers. |
