Top 10 albums by decade

I thought this would be a fun thread to participate in. Basically, post your top 10 albums from each decade from the 60s onwards. If we get enough posts, perhaps I will compile it into a list or something. You can go earlier if you like, but I can only think of a few albums from before the 60s that I would consider favourites and most of them are jazz, so I'm going from the 60s. Anyway, here is my list, which will probably change more than once;

1960s
10. Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
9. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
8. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
7. Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
6. Frank Zappa - Hot Rats
5. The Zombies - Odessey and Oracle
4. The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
3. The Beatles - Revolver
2. Bob Dylan - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
1. Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison

1970s
10. Can - Tago Mago
9. Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
8. Brian Eno - Another Green World
7. Wire - Pink Flag
6. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
5. David Bowie - "Heroes"
4. Nick Drake - Pink Moon
3. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
2. The Stooges - Fun House
1. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run

1980s
10. Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
9. Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
8. Prince - Purple Rain
7. The Replacements - Let it Be
6. The Cure - Disintegration
5. New Order - Substance
4. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
3. Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska

4. Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One
3. Botch - We Are the Romans
2. Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
1. Red House Painters - Ocean Beach

2000s
10. Sigur Ros - ( )
9. Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
8. City of Caterpillar - City of Caterpillar
7. Converge - Jane Doe

5. maudlin of the Well - Bath
4. Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
3. The National - Alligator
2. Luxury - Health and Sport

Haha, perhaps. The order changes all the time depending on mood. Fun House probably takes the top spot more often, but I've been in a Springsteen mood as of late, maybe because I found a bunch of his records for $3 each when I was digging around at a record shop and I've been listening to them a lot.

Also, I should note; feel free to put less than 10 albums or to skip decades or whatever.

Also, indicate your favorite decade. That would be interesting. I like this thread. It is pretty much music recomendations for me. I am just starting to get into music, so I have a lot of catching up to do.

I really don't think I can do this one...seriously.

These are not in order...I'm not ready to commit myself that much.

1960's

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
Rubber Soul - The Beatles
Disraeli Gears - Cream
Axis: Bold As Love - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
Sweetheart Of The Rodeo - The Byrds
Head - The Monkees (laugh all you want)
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme - Simon And Garfunkel
Revolver - The Beatles (sorry...couldn't help it)

1970's

Who's Next - The Who
Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
Boston - Boston
A New World Record - Electric Light Orchestra
2112 - Rush
A Night At The Opera - Queen
The Wall - Pink Floyd (just makes the cut)
Fragile - Yes
A Trick Of The Tail - Genesis
Chicago - Chicago (it's called Chicago II now)

The 1980's (the hard one)

Time - Electric Light Orchestra
Abacab - Genesis
17 - Chicago
Pyromania - Def Leppard
High Infidelity - REO Speedwagon
British Steel - Judas Priest
The Joshua Tree - U2
Reckoning - R.E.M.
Moving Pictures - Rush
To Hell With The Devil - Stryper

The 1990's (still hard)

Nevermind - Nirvana
Gretchen Goes To Nebraska - King's X
Dirt - Alice In Chains
Living Room Scene - Dillon Fence
Ring - The Connells
New Miserable Experience - Gin Blossoms
Grave Dancers Union - Soul Asylum
Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
Collective Soul - Collective Soul
Roll The Bones - Rush

The 2000's (harder than it seems)

Vapor Trails - Rush
Staduim Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Picaresque - The Decemberists
How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - U2
Continuum - John Mayer
? - Neal Morse
John Davis - John Davis
Destination: Beautiful - Mae
Songs For Silverman - Ben Folds
The Sophtware Slump - Grandaddy

I'm nowhere near satisfied with this list. I can think of 15-20 albums that should be up here...grrr....

I made a thread somewhat similiar to this a long time ago, except I think I included favorite songs on top of favorite albums.

I'll make my lists later.

Really? Tim is where it's at!

I honestly haven't heard enough albums from any of the decades besides the 90's and 00's to do this. Stupid lack of music funds...

I still haven't heard Tim to be honest. I find it hard to believe it could be better than Let It Be.

Feel free to just do the 90s and 00s, or to post lists of less than 10 albums. Also, the library and and second hand record stores with $2 vinyls are good places for getting albums from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Nothing beats songs like "Left of the Dial" or "Bastards of Young." It's really rock and roll the way rock and roll is supposed to be made. Songs like "Gary's Got a Boner" don't compare.

I quite frequently patronize my library for music (I actually work there.) But there is mostly 90's and 00's albums. I'll try and scrape together a decent list tonight.
