No love for Pink Floyd's true magnus opus of the 70's which was ' Dark side Of the Moon'?

I have two Pink Floyd albums on mine but neither are DSOTM.

My 90s list seriously needs more hip-hop.

And you base your opinion upon what? That you merely don't like Pink Floyd?

I'm just saying that none of these lists have listed ' Dark Side Of The Moon' in the
70's category. That album stayed on the Billboard top 100 album charts for over
a decade after it's release. Most critics still list it as one of the best alt/rock albums
ever created.

Ex Floyd member Roger Waters sold out arenas on his 07 tour doing the Floyd Music
he created and it's not just nostalgic baby boomers buying the tickets as the crowds have
been comprised with a lot of younger audience members as well.

I really think that Pink Floyd were an excellent band, but making a popular album and selling out arenas isn't exactly proof of good music. I mean, I'm pretty sure Fergie has done both.

Ultimately that's all that matters. If the world raves about album X what's the difference if I can't enjoy listening to it.

That said, I do like Pink Floyd a lot. I've listened to The Wall a bajillion times.

You, sir, are objectively, wholly, and completely wrong. Psychadelic music is awesome. Olivia Tremor Control?! They put out some of the top albums of the 90's, imo. The end.

Oh wait. Where has all the love for Pavement gone?

I wouldn't put Fergie in the same category as Floyd or any other artist that has produced
work that has withstood the test of time. I agree that popularity alone or having
a huge ticket draw doesn't mean it's good music. I doubt in 10 years if Fergie will be anything more than a footnote in pop culture history. However I won't be surprised if the Beatles and Dylan along with bands like Pink Floyd let alone Led Zeppelin or Cream will still have their works being listened to by a younger generation of new listeners.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a cheerleader for Pink Floyd or any other artist of my generation
being the end all of all that is good. As a still gigging musician I also love a lot of new talent. This thread was about folks putting up their best album list picks according to different decades
and I had to voice what I thought was a glaring omission.

I have to stick with Larry Noman's sage advice he gave when he considered the art of writing
good songs. He simply asked himself one small question," Will this song still connect with
anyone 10 years after it's recorded?" that goes way beyond just multi platinum sales or
popularity. Sometimes however some artists do create a great work that can stand the test of
time as well as going multi platinum. That album was one of the greats imho and as one who
was in his youth back then I remember the impact of when it came out. It really hit people the
same way as Hendrix's ' Are You Experienced' did back in the 60's.

Haha, I kind of like Pink Floyd actually. I was just making a stereotypical joke.

I guess I don't understand how it's an omission when these lists are of our favourite albums. I mean sure, Dark Side of the Moon is way more popular and has way more cultural significance and I'm sure it will still be listened to after I die, but I just happen to like Wish You Were Here a whole lot more, which is why it's on my list.

Presumably, Pink Floyd doesn't appear on other lists because either people just don't like them or they don't like them enough to include them in their top 10. Basically, these lists aren't supposed to be objective in any way, all they represent are people's tastes.
