The Walking Dead

Has anyone else read this series? I started reading it from issue #1 on recommendation from a worker at a local comic store, and after the first few issues I wasn't able to put it down. I read up to issue #38 (the current) in a few days and now I feel deprived because I have to wait until later this month for the new issue.

In the beginning, you can sort of tell that Kirkman isn't used to writing drama, and some of the situations and dialogue come off as just a tad awkward as he's gaining his footing in the genre, but before long everything starts to feel very natural and the people in the story almost seem to come alive and take on their own personality beyond any influence or direction from a writer. The end of one of the issues in particular floored me so hard that I almost just dropped the series because I was so pissed off at Kirkman for what he "did" to those characters (but I didn't, and I'm glad for that).

If you're a fan of the zombie/survival genre, this one's a no brainer. If you're a fan of drama/action in general, it's also a very good choice to check out. Just make sure you read through at least the first ten to twelve issues, because the story takes a little bit to pick up. But once it does, it's amazing. This series is up there with Sin City as one of the best I've ever read. Now that I'm caught up, it's really difficult to go back to things like Batman, which just come off so cheesy and fake in comparison. (And it takes a lot for me to call Batman cheesy. Especially Frank Miller Batman, which is what I'm trying to read at the moment.)

The Jeffrey approves of this comic. Sometimes the art is a bit amateurish, but the concept is great, and the twists and turns make up for the occasional rushed character development.

p.s. Danny, if you like "Walking Dead," try "Girls." I would rate it for 16 and up, but it's quite, quite good.

mmmm...I love Kirkman and I love the Walking Dead.
I have the first four trades, and I hope to get the rest soon.

The Walking Dead, along with Invincible, is another of my favorites that I do not yet own.
