When our main musician didn't show...

At an AOG church, no musician = disaster. It's just not the done thing. At ICC, I am proud to say we have forged new ground for the AOG denomination and pulled off an entire set ACCAPELLA. Somebody call the newspaper.

Both myself and the other usual worship leader were away on our own ministry trips, completely oblivious to the fact the only capable musician at our home church was about to go AWOL!! It was a stressful time for our team. Waiting, trying to call, waiting and eventually making the decision to change the song list last minute and use only voices.
For a denomination that puts such a high priority on music, this seemed like a disaster! However, having no musician turned out to be a good experience for our church and our music team. The congregation responded so well. God was present. People touched God's Spirit... even without a musician.

I am so glad for God's empowering grace in this situation. It's such a comfort to see God at work in my church. I am encouraged to be part of church with depth enough to move past image and tradition and simply worship Him.

Through this experience, I'm reminded that our Lord really does adore His church and gives so much to see her grow and succeed - as if dying on the cross was not enough!

That's cool to hear, and just goes to show that worship isn't about nice music . It's about God, and only God. I think a completely accapella set would be awesome to do one Sunday... Too bad I'm not a leader .

Awesome lesson for us all.

It's easy to get into the mindset that MUSIC is WORSHIP

it's PART of worship sure, but there are denominations who go acapella all the time, and while That's not MY cup of tea, it doesn't make their worship any less valid.

Matt Redman wrote Heart of worship after Mike Pilavachi reckoned that the band were getting too dependand on the electric stuff, so literally pulled the plug.

They were told " you're unplugged until God is more important than the music"

hence....

"when the music fades......."
