Non-Gibson Firebirds

I like the gibson firebirds, but is there anyone besides gibson who makes guitars like this?

I've seen many guitars that look like explorers, but there is a difference between the explorer and the firebird, the explorer looks tacky imho, the firebird looks nice.

Any links/suggestions are appreciated.

make a custom one from warmoth parts.

I recently received my warmoth body and it far exceeded my expectations.

Epiphone makes them. I know a guy that has one - sounds quite good. Looks amazing too. Wouldn't mind having one myself someday.

I second the custom Warmoth one. I am soon to start making a bass from their parts, and they have been very helpful so far.

But a question - if you "like the gibson firebirds," why not buy a Gibson?

Probably the price. I don't think I'd ever buy a gibson because of the prices. Plus, you can customize it with Warmoth.

Quick dumb question.

How would one go about painting one of those? Going from unfinished wood to lets say white? What kind of paint do you paint a guitar with?

Can you repaint a guitar?

people repaint guitars all of the time...usually they strip the existing finish off and start with bare wood.

I think www.reranch.com has alot to offer on the topic of painting and refinishing guitars.

Very carefully.
You can totally kill the natural resonant qualities of a piece of wood by incorrectly or cheaply finishing it.
Specific instrument-friendly sealers and stains/colors are used.
Here's a flow-chart on how to finish an instrument in nitrocelulose:

It doesn't have mini humbuckers.

I would only consider buying a gibson if I was an amazing guitarist and I was loaded. Other than that, it's a lot cheaper to buy an epiphone and put nicer pickups on it. You'd spend from $500- $700 for a really great sound compared to $1500 and up for a gibson with the same pickups. I love Gibson- Don't get me wrong. I just think they're a bit overpriced and very overrated.

epiphones =/= gibsons. One can say, they would never buy a gibson...

however, if you truly want a gibson, most likely an epiphone will not satisfy eventually.
