I do not enjoy playing electric kits for anything. Too unnatural for me.

Alt, as in real alt?

Well actually, even if you're not actually talking about the type of music that was rampant through the nineties and then a bunch of 11 year old started calling every single piece of music that resembles rock "alt" you're still better off with acoustic sets... Electric sets are cool, but they have a very limited use...

In fact, most people don't really know how an electric set should be used. The only band that I can think of off hand that ever used them and made a good use for them was Def Leppard. Even then, only his toms were electric.

Alt. as in Alternative, you could say Christian Rock instead for this band( wasnt going for what most consider Alt. i.e. Nickelback ). do acoustic sets have more depth/volume to them? what are electric sets generally used for? im sorry for all the questions, as you can see from my avatar, im no drummer, and i know next to nothing about them. the reason for these Q's is because ive got a band together, but were figuring out if it be best to use the electric set we already have, or buy an acoustic set. TIA

The only real benefit to having an electric set that you have more control over the sound and volume. They however feel so unnatural, and do not have the nuances that you get with an accoustic set. There is just so much more that can be done with an accoustic set that cannot be done with an electric set.

Our worship band played at another church, and a drummer used their electric drumset. He didn't like it at all.

Ive seen several bands play with electric drums, all I could hear was the crash and hi hat.

The bands sucked too.

My church has an electric drum set, and while it fixes the problem of not being able to control the drum's sound, it just doesn't have the same feel as an acoustic drum set. Acoustic drums are definitely the way to go.

I definitely see a host of reasons for a church to go with e-drums...

I can't think of any that a rock band should.

indeed...you got me there.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra actually uses a hybrid setup. I believe the only "hot" part of his setup were the cymbals...everything else was electronic...at least from what I could see.

I could see some great usage of a hybrid setup for something more of a hip-hop band as well.
