| Steve Spurrier I was so excited when I heard he was leaving that I actually jumped up and down (in public). What will become of Florida?

| They can't get a coach the level of Spurrier (there is none), but believe me UF won't pick some slouch either. The Gators will still be a premier team next year, even if I become their coach. The main thing this does is open the door for the UT's, UGA's and most importantly the USC's of the SEC east to take a step to the top of one of, if not the toughest division in college football.
I'm just wondering if in 5 years he'll fall under the Lou Holtz scenerio (fail in the NFL and return to a successful college career) or the Bill Walsh / Jimmy Johnson scenerio (have a successful post-NCAA coaching tenure in the NFL). |

| GO SKINS!!! They're one of my favorite teams, but I would've liked to have seen him on the sidelines in Charlotte. |

| I personally don't think he has the personnel to compete in D.C. He's got a good offensive line and a run-oriented offense, with not much of a quarterback. Completely different from what he had in Florida. They still won't be able to beat the Cowboys .

| My family now has issues! Dad's a 'Skins fan but he absolutely, totally, completely despises Spurrier. (Spurrier grew up in this area, but now he acts like we're all a bunch a no good hillbillies. It's a little bit offensive to some!) I think Dad will finally change teams after 50-some-odd years. Go Titans.....

Everyone is faster in the NFL and Spurrier will learn that quickly. It doesn't help that he is coaching a team like the Redskins. First off, Schottenheimer got a raw deal. They signed him to a long term deal and after one year, they claim they were unsatisfied and had to let him go. I know that Snyder was in love with Spurrier, but he should have at least let Marty coach another season because he had led the team to an 8-3 finish despite a horrendous roster. Snyder (whom isn't the most honorable man in football) should have given Marty more of a chance, no coach can come in, install his system, and expect a drastic change in a single season. It took Billick a few years with the Ravens, Vermeil a few years with the Rams, Parcells a few years with the Jets, etc...So Spurrier will learn the rules of the cap, an owner who wants to be too involved, and the perils of not having every player in the league wanting to be on your team. I don't see him revolutionizing the team. They have no QB signed for next year, their best reciever (Westbrook) is not that great, and their defense, though improving, will probably lose Green to retirement and won't be able to replace him. You can't draft enough help to turn them around and I am sure they have no room under the cap to go and pick up enough free agents. Spurrier will be an average coach, and in a few years he will be lumped together with Mora, and Wannstedt and all of the other coaches who just keep migrating to new towns hoping to resurrect their careers. | |
