| Is this just goofy? Or not? We, as a team, have been asked to wear shorts this Summer. On Sunday mornings.
One guy tonight said he would've been wearing shorts the whole time, but he was afraid he would get run out of the band.
How far is too far in our "liberty" in Christ?
And no, I'm probably not going to participate. And yes, I stand a good chance of being odd man out and sticking out. |

The sanctuary stage is currently decorated with palm trees, surfboards and a bamboo wall. |

| we are on a no shorts leash. Darn guitarist who wore 80's running shorts!
My shorts would cause no stir if I was in the congregation, I really fail to see what the big deal is, as long as you don't wear immodest 80's running shorts.

| I'm not really seeing the "how far is too far" issue. As they are asking you to wear shorts, and not really giving you an option? |

| I wish my church was like that. The best we get is, nothing. Our worship team once played a wedding where we all suited up, and our director said we should suit up again some time, but it never happened. I need to get over to America at some point... |

| I generally don't wear shorts on Sunday mornings, but I don't put a ban on them for the others in the band. So far, no problems with the shorts people have chosen to wear when they wear shorts to church. I can tell you what would be coming down the pike if someone showed up in 80's running shorts, though!

| We don't permit shorts on the platform.
For me, it's about public presentation in general, rather than a "shorts in church" discussion. I don't think it's necessary to see anyone's thighs on a platform. I find it a bit distracting, personally.
But I'm a geezer... |

| I'd love to wear shorts somedays as it gets so blasted hot and humid on the platform even with the A/C on full (and we're not even in the super-hot-and-humid summer months yet) but so far I've not been given a go-ahead due to some folks being afraid of what other folks might think.
At my first church out in Cali, it was common for both Tommy and Pastor Mark to wear board shorts or those khaki-style multi-pocketed shorts through the summer months. We were there to worship and hear the Word of God, not to make a fashion statement. As far as I remember in the 7 years I was there, no one ever crossed any lines of what might be considered inapproriate attire.
I guess I have grow in my grace for people who possess "appearance" issues and not just with outerwear but with the perception of behavior in general.
It does try my patience.
I trust that Jesus won't give a hoot about the clothes that I'm wearing when we meet face to face... |

We're not doing a sermon series or such either. Our pastor sometimes tries to be as opposite of what people expect in a pastor and he dared the music minister to wear shorts on stage for the Summer. He says he's being "nonreligious" or "anit-religious", but basically I think they want to just slap tradition (or what is perceived as tradition") in the face and see if they can get by with it.
This isn't part of this discussion and I hope nobody runs with it (and it's been my experience here that I should just shut up now, but........), but we've already removed the pulpit and I'm not sure we'll see it again until the next funeral at the church.
No, no sermon series or theme. Just a dare to go up there and show what few people who like things traditional (who are left) that they can't do anything about it anymore I guess. And I base that statement on things I've heard over the last two years directly and indirectly. |

| which is exactly why I go to a very non traditional church. I have never liked organs or pulpits, choirs etc etc...
Just joined the worship team, and from what I can tell, anything goes. One guitarist wears a hat and has his full sleeve tattoos showing in their full glory.

| Shorts generally look really tacky on stage.
