Most excellent sounds a little snooty too me. I would pick a name that had a bit of self deprecation in it as you could then totally be the opposite and create an irony, or at worst, live up to your name.

I've had a couple of ideas, depends what type of band though, but here's my favourite:

'Visigoth or Athenian?'

Visigoths were a race of people that were violent and hated culture or learning, they frequently burned the books and defaced the art of the villages or towns they pillaged. Athenian, on the other hand refers to they people who inhabited ancient Athens, who gave us modern science, learning, medicine and etc.
