| Multi-track Recorder Hey, I don't really know what thread this should go in.... I'm getting the Fostex vf-16 multitrack recorder, and i was wondering if any of you guys have any tips with using it. Or if you have any tips on home recording period, that would be great. I appreciate any help you have.

| I think there is a web group/page for Fostex multi tracks somewhere, but I don't remember the name. I think it was for that type of recorder, but I'm not sure. Do a search in google and see what it turns up.

| Yeah, i'd say do a search fo it. One thing i do recomend is trying a computer program called Cool Edit Pro to record with if you havent already bought the recorder. I have it on my laptop...when im at home i just plug in a chord going from the output of my amp and into the input of my laptop and then plug a chord from the earphone jack to the input on my amp...the recording quality is unbelieveable. I've heard a recording from a 4-track and it wasn't nearly as good as the Cool Edit Pro program i use. I'll have to record something and put it on here so you can get a better idea of the sound. The 16-track might be better than it though. Just if you can check out Cool Edit Pro. Im not sure how much it is, you'll probably have to do a search on it to see if there's any demo or trial version of it. Well, thats my $.02.

| I don't know a whole lot about that recorder. Is it digital or what? How much did you pay for it?

| I use Korg D12. Looked at Fostex, just liked Korg better. I never got the computer thing down. Don't know if I don't have enough computer, or what. There are those who told me to spend my money on software & sound card & I would be better off than with a dedicated recorder, but it works way better for me. Plus, the computer is in the living room, and when everybody else is in there it's hard to be creative!
I think there is a web site something like homerecording.com A friend told me about it, but I have browsed around on it once. You might want to try guitarwar.com - lots of helpful folks there, some professionals, some just outstanding hobbyists. (but you have to be a member) If you check out guitarwar in the next couple of days check the Soloist war. He's a friend of mine, and knows a lot about home recording, besides being an outstandint guitarist.
