Anybody heard about this yet? My friend showed it to me, and I think its a cool idea, but pretty creepy.

So, I should be expecting some weird camera crew coming through my neighborhood taking pictures/video of my street and house?

Unless you live in the heavily populated central part of DC then I doubt it. They're only really sticking to the downtown areas so far. I doubt they'll be scouring the suburbs. You'd be more likely to see higher detailed satellite images for areas like that than you would be street view maps. Waste of manpower and resources to do the street view there.
