BRANDON HEATH’S SINGLE “I’M NOT WHO I WAS” CLAIMS TOP 4 SPOT AT RADIO
KLOVE ADDS THIS WEEK, SONG TESTING NO. 1 WITH AIR 1 NETWORK
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) June 1, 2007 – Acclaimed singer-songwriter Brandon Heath is watching 2007 turn into a stellar year as his newest radio single climbs all the way up to the No. 4 position on the R&R Christian AC Monitored chart this week. “I’m Not Who I Was” is the second single from Heath’s debut album, Don’t Get Comfortable, (9/06) and is surpassing the success of his top five charting first single, the Dove Award-nominated “Our God Reigns.” With momentum impressively moving in his favor, “I’m Not Who I Was” is demonstrating consistent chart growth across all formats. The track is currently the No. 1 testing song for Air 1 radio, and holds the No. 2 testing position at KSBJ radio.
Chart numbers aside, people are connecting with this song in a way that is truly special. It’s a phenomenon that could not be manufactured, only captured. Chuck Pryor, broadcast veteran co-host of KSBJ’s Afternoon Show, shares, “Amanda and I promoted the song and a show idea and asked listeners to call in with their ‘I’m Not Who I Was’ stories. We pre-promoted for a few days and when we hit the air what followed was some of the most amazing radio I have ever been part of. We heard story after story about God’s power and grace from real listeners, with real struggles, living real lives. It was three hours of non-stop story after story of God’s power to heal, renew, forgive, and set free. We were exhausted after that show but we also knew something very special had just taken place.” The station created a special remix of the song, including highlights from the calls they received.
“I’m Not Who I Was” has been described by Heath as one of his most personal songs, and is prompting a significant response from listeners and radio stations alike. “When we heard about the KSBJ remix, we decided to see if our listeners would respond the same way. They did!” comments Bob Thornton, the director of programming for KXOJ Tulsa. “We have created two special radio mixes and are working on a third.”
According to KSBJ’s Pryor, “This is also one of the highest testing songs on our station right now, so if you missed this one the first time around you may want to give it another listen because it really is something special.”
Brandon Heath has been a respected writer in the Nashville music community for years, collaborating with well-known artists like Bebo Norman, Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes, to name a few. The Nashville native first began writing at age 13 and credits the town’s legendary hotspot for songwriters, the Bluebird Café, as the place he first experienced music that moved him. “Music, for me, has always been about the songwriting,” Heath says. “When I listen to a song, I really want the lyrics to actually mean something.”
After opening for Bebo Norman and Aaron Shust last fall, Heath maintained a heavy touring schedule filled with leading worship for churches, and back-to-back brown bag concerts and radio appearances in major markets across the country including Seattle, Spokane, Portland, Tulsa, Kansas City, and Tampa.
After leading worship at several Young Life camps and hitting many of the major summer festivals, Heath plans to spend the fall of ‘07 touring the U.S. as a solo headliner as well as with the Robbie Seay Band.
