Position Paper.

Hi all, im back (again...) anyways, i need help.

i am supposed to write a posistion paper on the question: To what extent should lesser-developed nations use the western industrial model as a pattern for development?

Right now, im trying to figure out how to go about doing this. Any ideas?

thats about it for now.

EDIT: this is an in-class paper

I'd say that you could argue from the South American example that westernization is a bad thing, as some of these nations have tried to follow western models only to end up as mob rule, tourist traps, or drug traffickers havens. It is also arguable that western style economics on the international stage is what got these countries where here are. Also lesser-developed is hardly used, developing nations is the more relevant term. Hope that helps, if not good luck with the paper.

You could also look at this from an environmental standpoint. Western nations (especially the USA) have really changed the environment with their economies. There are a lot of different positions about this, of course, and some of them lead to the conclusion that other nations should follow suit while others do not...

I agree, but it doesn't change that fact that I have to do this

Well, if you still need some ideas on how to start the paper, I would probably begin by listing characteristics of the western model of development. You should go through your notes and book in order to determine what exactly was the western model of industrialization. After defining those characteristics, you could probably determine if developing countries are able to, or ought to, follow this path.

Oh yeah, and I'm red.
