Aaron Shust - Anything Worth Saying

Yeah, I know it's 2 years old already...I was a little late to the game...

I just picked up a copy from the local FCS for $5 and been listening to it for a few days.

My quick review: some hits and some misses. The songs that have gotten airplay ("Matchless", "Give it all away", "My Savior, My God") do seem to be the strongest so far. Overall not bad. Not completely my cup'o tea but I think it's growing on me.

Anyone else heard it? Thoughts?

I only really found a couple of songs on the cd that I liked or would use. My Savior My God was the only one I thought was really good, but I also liked Matchless, More Wonderfull. Overall, I didn't really think the cd was worth buying. If I could go back, I would just buy a couple songs, because IMO, the rest of them don't stand out and aren't that great. Keep in mind that that is just my opinion though.

"My Savior My God" went over really big in our church last year. I connected it along with the old hymn it's based on "I am not skilled to understand" done in the same key as one continuos song and it made a great combination that pleases the old and the young. I think MSMG won the Dove award for song of the year in 2006? It was the only song on the album I considered bringing into our worship service though. Hopefully he's not a one hit wonder.

We've been play My Savior My God for about a year, I still like the song.

I also just picked up his CD about a week ago as a Family Christian Store $5 'cash register special'....definitely worth the $5.

I can't say anything really jumps out as amazing but in general I like listening to the songs.

I'm thinking about working the last song One Day into a worship set pretty soon.

We've played "My Savior, My God" for a while now. "Matchless" is pretty cool, but I don't have the CD. I suspect that there might be more coming out of him in the future. I hope so, at least.

We have done Matchless and MSMG... both work very well. Can I ask what is the hymn you are combining? I love doing that and so does my senior pastor. I did Draw Me Close and connected it to Angus Dei both in 'A', and it was great (IMHO). We have also done Worthy is the Lamb / Crown Him. Just today we did the How Great is Our God / How Great Thou Art combo.

Is there a thread for medleys that work well?

The hymn I use as a lead in to "My Savior My God" is actually called "I Am Not Skilled To Understand" written by Dora Greenwell in 1873. The words are the same as the verses for "My Savior My God". Shust just dropped a verse and turned another verse into the chorus. The words are not his.

We do them both in Db (Play in C at Capo-1) and the hymn is a perfect lead in.

Here is the hymn on Cyberhymnal:

I AM NOT SKILLED TO UNDERSTAND

Other combinations I use are:

Holy Holy Holy / Holy is the Lord
How Great Thou Art / How Great is Our God
The Wondrous Cross / The Wonderful Cross
Open Our Eyes Lord / Open the Eyes of My Heart
Come Christians Join to Sing / Come Now is the Time To Worship

Thanks so much!

Answer to my own question: there are some really good threads on worship medleys:

Did a search but nothing was posted in last 6 months, so I may resurrect one. Sorry for getting off topic a little, and thanks again for the tips.
