| Banner at the top of the page Hey, I'm not sure if I should put this in a computer forum or what, but here's my question (actually, it's for Mickey, but maybe someone else can answer it).
Is it possible for this site to be set up so the banner (I'm not sure what it's called - I'm talking about the blue bar at the top of the page that says "Home", "Artists", and "use cp", "register" and so on) at the top of the page is in a frame? That way, when you go to a new thread, all that needs to load is the thread, the banner would stay the same. Every time I click on a thread, the exact same banner loads and on my 56k modem it gets annoying because it takes extra time.
Make sense? If not, lemme know and I'll clarify.
Aaron

| I'll whiz by the vBulletin site sometime tomorrow and see how the top bit is done. If I remember correctly, Mickey puts some HTML code as an option in the admin control panel that dictates what goes up there. However, I don't think it's possible.
Another thing to consider is the ads. The way it works now, we refresh the banner ads and load a new one with every reply, thread view, etc. Now, I don't know the details of this site, but if clickthrough rate isn't a huge issue, then it's probably better to leave it how it is because those pennies add up for Mickey. On the other hand, if clickthrough rate is a large issue, such an action may be good because it would drastically improve the clickthrough rate the site gets.
I'd imagine that with the current setup, the clickthrough rate is absurdly low. Everyone do your part to help out on that one.
*clicks on ad*

| There is an option where you can pay $20 a year/month (can't remember which) and not have to view the advertisements up at the top of the page. |

| I'm not sure that covers the message boards. I don't think it does but I'm not sure (just because I don't know how Mickey would pull that off code-wise).

| Actually, I think it does cover the whole site, message boards and all, but don't take my word for it...

| tim's right, the pay play is 20 a year and it includes everything
also guitarman you can't do what you said with the current setup (altohugh mickey could write a code that lets you do it, I wouldn't if i were him becasue i don't think it would make that much difference)
I hope this makes sense

| Actually, the $20/year does NOT cover the message boards, simply because I can't figure out how to do it. However, with the new upgrades I'm working on right now, I might be able to make it work.
Right now, the $20/year stops all of the ads in the tab section, artist info, CD reviews. Those are the sections that have pop-ups, so I felt I HAD to block those if people were willing to pay the $20.
I'll know more about what I can do with the new system in a week or so. If I can get them ALL blocked, then I'll probably start promoting the members area again.
IHL,
Mickey |
