when you're talking about a wall of empty cabs, you can just take a generic manufacturer cab and slap a logo on it. You're not looking at $600 a cab because there's no speakers. Even if you're using real Marshall 1960As, unloaded those things are $200 a pop maybe. Plus if you're famous you can get those guys to sponsor you and build you empty cabs.

Guitar Center has walls made to look like walls of cabs.

I went and saw REO Speedwagon and STYX about a year ago. REO had a wall of 12 412 cabs on either side of the drum kit (each wall 3 cabs high, 4 cabs wide) with a head on top of each one. At the end of the set, a tech guy came by with a big long stick and flipped the light out on each head, and each wall was on casters; the entire thing, all twelve cabs, was rolled off the stage via ONE stage hand, and he turned it around and everything was gutted.

The one problem was they forgot to tear down the Custom Audio Electronics OD100 heads and cabs (one for each guitarist) mic'd up backstage before they moved the "marshalls"

Realize that most of the guitar sounds come from the big ribbon arrays hanging above and in front of the stage. This helps keep the stage volume to managable levels. Stage volume control is important to eliminate feedback and to keep the instruments out of the vocal channels.

Most of those 412 and 812 cabs are there for appearance, and immediately available as spares.

Looks, looks and a little wow factor. Like Zakk Wylde's Wall of Doom is 4 full marshall stacks(8 cabs and 4 heads), but he only uses the bootom 4. He runs stereo with his chorus on the whole time to thicken his tone. I should point out he uses one cab per head, 2 main 2 backup. He also mics one with a SM57 and the other with a Audio Technica(spelling, not sure on the model. One is mixed dry the other wet. Ever thing else is just dummies, his real heads are tucked away back stage. I've been to two Kiss concerts and they have two hugh walls of amp and cabs. I think Gene had 12 heads and 24 8x10 cabs. Of these one head is used, he only uses one cab that is not in the live mix and his is run to a iso cab wich is whats mixed live. Personaly I like to look because to me it just gives you that rock n roll vibe.

Just thought I would add Zakk runs all four bottom cabs insted of just two. So it's one head and two cabs insted of one head one cab.
