| I'm homeschooled as well. I'll post the pros and cons of my homeschooled experience (homeschooled since 3rd grade, now a 10th grader) IMO tomorrow, I have to get off now.

This negatively affected my tone in ways that I just can't describe.
Then, on a whim, a few years ago I wandered into a Bath and Body Works store at a local mall and picked up some of their gentle foaming anti-bacterial hand cleansers.
The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.

| I was homeschooled for the 10 years (Kindergarten - Completion...I finished at 16) of my schooling, and then attended a community college for 3 years--no degree to show for it, but not everyone needs a degree. Quote:

How do you feel you are better off/lacking compaired to others? That is, what do you feel are the pros and cons of home schooling?
| These are just what I find to be true from a personal level.
- It really is family oriented and I grew up very close to my family. Sure, we fight and all that jazz, but we've learned how to live with each other because we've been together day in and day out. I don't think I would trade that for the world--even the less enjoyable moments.
- I never had to deal with school cliques or plain old meanness. I just didn't.
- Going into college I was not prepared for classroom settings or deadlines. I also had poor study habits. My first semester was really difficult.
- I was behind in math. This is partly because it makes little sense to me and because I tricked my parents into thinking that I completed Algebra..which I only sort of did. This came back to bite me real hard in college.
- I was very involved in other activities; horseback riding, gymnastics, ballet, jazz, guitar and I did a lot of reading, which has given me a knowledge about a lot of different things.
- Even though I did have a lot of activities, I did miss out on some things like high school football games, school bands, drama teams or other more "school centered" activities that my parents are able to look back on fondly.
- I was able to have a lot of one-on-one time with my mom and dad if I was struggling in certain subjects.
- I always had lots of friends through homeschool groups, or church groups that shared similar beliefs and values as I did. I never was unsocialized. I am a confidant and independent woman.
These are just some things that stand out to me.
There were times when I hated being homeschooled, but as I look back on it I would not change it. It made me who I am. I will probably homeschool my kids, but we'll see.

| I found that adjusting to community college wasn't as bad as I expected, even with less social interaction before....And it definitely helps academically.

| I've been homeschooled all my life, and love it. First off, I'll debunk the myth; I'm not socially stupid. I see my friends about three to four times a week, and I go to the community college across the lake. For me there are very little cons. AS for sports, that's not a big deal, since you can go to any High School and play sports, even if you're homsechooled, which is what my friends do. I'm probably going to try out for basketball next year.
The reason my parents decided to homeschool me had little to do with the 'danger' or shootings, or the education I might get. It was completely based on the fact that they didn't want me around all the trash that is so apparent in school these days; everyone laughs when they find out that my Dad is a High School teacher and his kids are homeschooled. Now, I'm not innocent at all in the sense of knowing whats going on; I know exactly how bad things and people are, and at college I hear swear words, sexual language, etc. all the time, and I don't go into momentary shock when I hear such things. Homeschooling better prepared me to face all of this without actually joining in on it. I have to say, I admire those who went to public school (or any school) and still keeps the faith; I can't imagine how hard it must be, having grown up, almost every day of your life, in a place where everything contrary to God's word takes place.
God bless,
Jdc

| It's important to note that not every homeschooler can participate in sports at their local high school. While some states allow this, other states, like Michigan, do not. As a result, many homeschoolers either have to go without competitive sports in high school or join a homeschool high school team, which was the case with me. That's what sorta stinks about our state--homeschool sports opportunities are limited once you get to be a teen.
As for my experience with homeschooling? It was pretty positive. I feel like it prepared me well academically as I am able to stay on top of my studies and am doing quite good in college. The only bad part of it was the lack of socialization and sports. I would have enjoyed having more friends and playing more sports, but I have no regrets about homeschoolng. I have adjusted well to college.
