Line 6 Spider 3 Amp; Need ratings

I'm thinking of buying the above-said amp. What do you think of the product?

From what I've heard, it's just the Spider II, but with several hundred crappy presets and a harder to use interface. Personally, I would just get a Spider II - a lot cheaper, and tone is just as good.

I honestly hate ALL spiders... IMO the only decent Line6 product is the PodXTL...

First, how much are you looking to spend?

Second, what type of applications will this be used for?

PODxtl's have many of the same models as Spider III amps.

Here's a review from someone who owns one.

Features: 3/5
Mine, the 30w version, has four models.
Clean: it's nothing special.
Crunch: it's not really crunch. It's more of a tinny dist.
Metal: same as crunch with more dist.
Insane: more accurately, fuzzbox.

Quality: 4/5
This'll break if you drop it 5 feet. It's simple not that rugged. But it works.

Overall...3.5/5. Save your money and buy a Vox AD. Or better yet, don't buy a modeling amp and buy a tube amp.

The difference in my guitar's sound is so wickedly improved that I no longer feel the need to buy a new amp or pedals or even strings...EVER!
So, it's my belief that tone is in the soap.
Thank you and goodnight.

I have a one, I like it pretty well, but I haven't really used any other amps except my peavey blazer, which sounds awful. I've heard that the Spider II sounds better than the III, and the Spider I better than the II (I can't verify that though - Ask Rubberchipmunk)

I don't really use many of the presets. Except for a few of the songs that I know, the presets just don't do much for me.

If you have a bad amp right now, it will sound amazing. If you don't know where you're going with your sound I would imagine you be able to get quite a few sounds out of it (I'mjust realizing how little I've played with the differant settings and amp modelson it in the 4 and a half monts I've had it. ).

The most important thing you can do, if you haven't already, is to go out and actually try it. And others. There's not much worse than buying something and being convinced there was something better out there and never being content with what you've purchased.

Thats about all I've got, but I really, get out there and try it if you haven't. You can't lose anything just trying it.

Well, the best I think I can describe the Spiders as is workable for most people, but something that you'll grow out of quickly as a player. Like, I would personally be fine using one, but it's not my definition of the best tone I can get.

We have one. It's OK. It's a little tough to navigate and if you get the floorboard pedal to operate it, good luck accessing all the presets. I haven't been able to figure out how yet.

It's got some good sounds. I wish it had a direct out on the back, but we got the one just below the model that does. I think the one we have is the 75 watt one.

I went through nearly all the "artist" presets and if I recognized the song and knew some of it, I obviously tried to play it. The "Back In Black" preset didn't impress me in the least. The "Bark At The Moon" preset had too much flange, chorus or whatever it was on it.

If you know bits and pieces of some of the songs listed, I go to GC or wherever you like to go and just sit there for a while and go through them and see what you think about the sounds.

I'm sure you can screw them all up.....I mean.......redo them to your liking and save them. Since I don't get to really use the amp for anything useful other than going in the studio and making some racket for a while, I haven't cared enough to find out much about it other than what I've said.

I've heard others in the past say the II is just as good. I know GC was just about giving them away here a couple of months ago.

My friend uses a Spider II head and a cab as his live rig, and he's really good. He praises the Spider IIs over the IIIs, because apparantly the IIIs sound horrible. He would have a Spider I if he could. He prefers the tone on those.

I own a Spider III (although I haven't played it lately as I am borrowing an Epi Valve Standard) and have played A Spider II. There really isn't much of a difference.

Get a Fender Pro Junior. The only amp you'll ever need unless you're playing hardcore or metal.

My spider I sounds like a donkey next to a spider III....

Plus, the stavesacre presets on the spider III are worth the entry fee for someone like me..
