| knives any knives. any brand. tell me whatcha got and why you got it.
i don't have any at the moment (my folder broke a week or so ago) but i am planning on buying one of the following folders and one of the following fixed blades:
Buck Iceman (folding)
Buck White tail deer Collectors (fixed)
Gerber Torch II (folding)
Gerber Armor (folding)
Gerber Freeman Hunter (fixed)
S&W Buffalo Horn (Fixed)
i'm probably going with the buck knives though, those are the best for the money.

| I've got a three inch Gerber with a plastic handle. Nice and sturdy, but doesn't have a clip. I also have a Leatherman sideclip, a Jaguar 3 inch lockblade.
I want to find a three inch knife with a clip and spring opening (not a switchblade, a springblade) Any ideas where to look?
(As if anyone ever checks this forum) |

(As if anyone ever checks this forum) | a spring loaded blade is a switch blade. I am not sure what you are looking for. I own several assisted openers and lever locks. For assisted openers, I would recommend the Kershaw Ken Onion SpeedSafe line. Now I caution you MAKE SURE THEY ARE LEGAL IN YOUR AREA! Knife offenses are usually felonies and are not things to monkey with. Certain misconceptions exist. For example, Texas knife laws are among the stiffest in the nation.
For most knives, Smoky Mountain Knife Works is a pretty decent source. |

| It's a different kind of switchblade then. the blade flips out of the handle, not slides. Basically, it's a standard lockblade, but there's a catch on the back of the blade while it's folded. Simply slide over the switch, and the knife opens. It's really the easiest one handed opening besides a swithblade.
I've visited the Smoky Mountain Knife Works Factory actually, but not recently.
I'll start checking Bass Pro and Walmart after my bro's wedding. |

I'll start checking Bass Pro and Walmart after my bro's wedding. | Thats a switchblade. People try to divide them in categories and such by which directions the blade pops out of the handle. Switchblades are automatic and are illegal in the united states federally as best as I understand it. (I was told that by an attorney specializing in weapons law)
Now, Assisted openers are legal in some places NOT ALL. They skirt the regulations a bit. In Texas for example, they are not.
I like these things for ease in one handed opening.
1) Speed safe knives by kershaw. AO, and they have good blades. They require maybe 15 degrees of opening before the mechanism takes over. Legal in most areas.
2) Camillus lever lock - fully manual, fully cool. Uses a side mounted lever and is fast as a switchblade. - obscure enough to be legal most places.
3) Smith and Wesson Swat. Carefully oiled and adjusted, a guitar player should be open this almost as fast as a switchblade. Can be adjusted to swing open with a flick of the wrist or a flick of the thumb stud. - legal wherever one handed openers are. |

| Only butterfly knives. I haven't practiced with mine in a loooong, looong time, so maybe this doesn't even count. Either way, i love them.

My son (28yo) just bought a Buck Sirus (#0297BKS-B) that's assisted opening and about the right size.
Street price was about $80. http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?...productid=3107
In the past I've had a small knife collection including switchblades, but due to the Draconian laws out here in California have cut it down to just some favorite pocket and camping knives.
I like Boker and have a few, as well as some others.
Having been a mechanic and worked in a machine shop, steel fascinates me. Knives particularly (from my youth on). All chemistry and mystique.
When I go on trips I like to hit stores and shows for things that appeal to me. If I can get a deal I'll bring home a souvenir.
Since retiring we can't afford to travel as much or buy everything that winks at me, but pocket knives are cheaper than guitars (usually)! |
